BOARD OF TRADE
I have tried to research this on the Web with no success.I know that as with the CIWL,the Company owned no locos(as far as I can make out) but that they attached their catering etc.and sleeping cars to existing formations for the provision of those services. Did the Company own/run any "day" coaches as it were i.e.ordinary passenger stock? Whether they did or not were their coaches always attached to existing train formations or did they run with the entire train formation consisting solely of Catering and sleeping stock? Many thanks. Les. P.S. any other useful information not readily available on the google etc. sites would also be much appreciated.
Allegheny1600
Hello Les, As far as I know, MITROPA was set up in Germany about the same time as the DRG was set up. They only provided catering and sleeping vehicles, no day coaches, as to full formations of sleeping cars, I will check with my colleagues when I see them next. I presume you have seen the Wikipedia page? There is also this (in German but 'translate' should help): http://www.mitropa-freunde.de/1.html You may be aware that post WW11, MITROPA only continued to operate in East Germany, in West Germany it was replaced with DSG. Not sure about current operations, sorry. HTH John E.
BOARD OF TRADE
Hello John, Thanks for reply.I have indeed looked on a number of Wiki sites for info on these topics, very useful in so far as they go.Thanks for confirming that Mitropa/DRG(DSG?) ran no day coaches and thanks for making enquiries as to full formations of sleeping cars. Since writing this I have "discovered" that DRG had a Dining/kitchen coach in the violet and cream livery of The Rheingold Express(and later the TEE in Maroon and Cream) although I realize that this may be no more than Manufacturer's imagination. I will have a look on the website you have recommended. Once again thanks for your reply and efforts. Les
BOARD OF TRADE
May I ask another question this time about the Gare de L'Est? I've managed to find some photos and track plans(old and new)on the web of the Station and appearance and position of the current Signal Cabin but this would appear to be a recent building(well recent as in not much older than the 70's or possibly 60's) I've looked everywhere I can think of on the web but no luck whatsoever as to any pics/site plan of the earlier signal cabin(s).. Does anyone know where the earlier signal cabin(or possibly cabins) was/were situated and can anyone point me in the direction of any site or sites with images/photos or plans of the cabin(s) or if they have any of them possibly post them on here?. Many thanks. Les
BOARD OF TRADE
i have spotted the site of the old signal cabin on a track plan of Le Gare de L'Est of the 30's(zoomed up to max resolution).. It was situated between the tracks just after Le Pont de Lafayette road overbridge but well before the La Rue de'Laqueduc overbridge. As to what it looked like however I have made no progress whatsoever, anyone able to assist at all? Many thanks. Les
