Andrew33103
Good Afternoon I am helping a friend build a model railway for her son. it has to be 00 but plan he likes is in n gauge plan book if we buy same spec parts does anyone know if it will work? Thanks Andrew
Wherry Lines
Sort of. There willl be variations between the geometry of N gauge and OO gauge, even if you are using the same brand (e.g Peco).
Rivercider
It may depend on the size of the plan, a lot of the smaller plans are designed to fit on a single board, in OO gauge this will make the board unwieldy or need more than one board. Also in the larger scale there may be critical parts of the layout more difficult to reach in the middle of the larger board, cheers
Bomag
AFAIR the radius of 1st/2nd/3rd radius curves are not proportional between N and 00 - N 1st radius is a scale 33m and OO is 26.7m
Paddy
Hi Andrew, I did come across one problem when I designing the track plan for HOLLERTON JUNCTION. The PECO Setrack points in OO are based on 2nd radius geometry whereas in N gauge it is 1st radius. Not sure why PECO went down this route although I suspect originally there probably was no 2nd radius in N gauge (too young to remember!). I hope this helps.
