Hi Guys

I am currently trying to create a Bachmann 158 in Saltire livery and I have read up on the snowplough/ object deflector fitted to Scottish units and was wondering if anyone knew how to get one as I have tried modelling it myself and the results look nothing like what are fitted to the units

I have done a Hurst conversion, will dig it out and post a picture!

This was the Hurst conversion I did, I still need to weather the rest of the unit however. It was a relatively easy conversion, use a stanley knife to score off the old fairing, snap off the base and glue on the new one. It's heavy cast metal so it helps improve the road handling of the dummy car.

Hurst can be a little "erratic" when it comes to stock availablity, I had to wait for this kit to become available for several months. It's worth emailing Andrew to see when he will produce some more.

I have noticed there was someone in Ebay selling a similar resin kit, it pops up now and then.

I had a 158 many years ago that I did this conversion on, I used Hurst parts for that and fitted a Kadee No 5 while I was at it. The replacement parts where that I got from Hurst where  resin not cast metal so you may be able to find either, good luck

One problem is the angle of the curved part , also the ploughs fitted to sprinter type units have a much larger curved face, the 158s had a shallow curved v of a much smaller diameter. If you look you will also notice that there was a small access panel on the right hand side of the coupling just above the plough.

I've never done it but I wonder if it might be possible to build up the back of the existing faring with plasticard then file the v-shaped notch into it with a curved file?  If you're removing the faring anyway, there's nothing to lose from having a go!
