jimikelly
So how do you wire this switch up BR60103 also this is a very rough sketch of one side of the layout ,33 feet long with a helix and running 2 layer right round then back on the helix
RMweb Premium BR60103 Posted December 17, 2014 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 17, 2014 Is it the two outside tracks leading out of the bottom of the drawing? Doesn;t matter -- pick your reversing section. the terminals on the DPDT switch are 1 2 3 4 5 6 join 1 and 6, then 2 and 5.(in and X formation) wire 3 and 4 to the controller, then 1 and 2 to the the reversing section. See how this works -- run a train in from one end. If it shuts down, change the switch and try again. Then do it at the other end with the switch opposite to what worked the first time. Should work. Then install in your control panel, whichever way you understand it.
Titan
Reverse the positive and negative on the bottom (or top) pair of tracks. If you reverse the bottom pair, the polarities should read from the top as + then - then + then -. If you are on DC then the polarity depends on the direction the train is running in. I think IIRC going forwards left rail is positive, so for a crossover between Up/Down Lines then the labeling of polarity is correct. Reverse one of them and both trains will travel in the same direction.

Switch to the left - the purple rail and wires become red, the green ones black. Drive train in from left, stop. Flick switch to right. Purple is now black, and green red. Drive train out to right - now going the other way as far as the controller is concerned.. Or if the switch is centre-off, leave it central, drive train in from either side, it will stop automatically in the central section, then set switch to drive out having reversed controller. shortliner
Can I recommend a read - and following the links, on this page, if you are running DC http://www.geocities.ws/loggingloco1/dctramway/homepage.htm
KalKat
That's a jolly interesting little project Shortliner. I may well use some of that (when I get to it) on my layout
MikeOxon
thanks for all your replys ,its funny I can easily do most things on my layout But wiring I just cant get my head round it so thanks very much guys for all your input I find it helps to use a red pen on the track drawing and follow the rail(s) from the +ve side of the power connector. Stop at an insulating frog or rail joiner and follow all paths where the moving point blades touch the 'red' rail. Do the same with a blue pen from the -ve side of the power connector. As long as red and blue never meet, except at an insulating joiner, and are on opposite sides of the track where you expect trains to run, then it should work. You'll need to do this for all possible point rail movements. I used this method to check out a reverse loop before wiring up an electrofrog 3-way point.as shown below: Mike
jimikelly
For a cheap fix before you get the reversing unit, you can install a normal DPDT reversing switch and flip it manually when the train is in the section. How do I wire this DPDT switch up
