Frappington Jct
Hi all, I'm not sure if this has been asked elsewhere, but I can't find anything. Basically, is there a reason that Hornby has only ever produced their B17 in early crest livery with the smaller tender type as used on the GE section, or in late crest with the larger tender as used elsewhere? I only ask as it seems an odd thing to do as both tender types where in service with the B17s during the whole br period.
RMweb Gold toboldlygo Posted December 24, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 24, 2014 I don't think any of the B17's with the smaller tender did receive the Late Crest.

They most certainly did. There are many photographs which show this.

RMweb Premium great northern Posted December 24, 2014 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 24, 2014 Really? In all the image searches I've done on them, I've never seen any of the smaller tenders with Late Crests.. unless it was on a model I've had a quick look in two of my reference books, and found photos of 61625/37/40 with the late crest. I also know with certainty that 61620 and 61641 received it, as I saw them, and again have photos to confirm it. Any that went through works for a general overhaul and repaint after the crest was introduced would have got it, and quite a few did get generals after April 1957. I was just going on information I was told, so I'm glad to be corrected. Going purely on dates of last general overhaul, the following would have got the crest - 61608/10-13/18/20/23/25/26/27/29/31/33/36/37/40/41. Between us we have so far confirmed six, and I know that I have photos of most if not all of the rest somewhere. According to Yeadon, 1629 was the first on 18/4/57. All, of course had the lion facing the wrong way on the right hand side, and none were ever corrected.
