Recommended Posts

hi,

today ive been trying out templot for the first time and watched a tutorial video, but im having a problem while selecting and deselecting track parts (control and background). just to check that im doing it right ill describe what im doing. to select a bit of track that i want to work on i click on it and click "M" and then i put it to background by clicking "insert", and when i do this it keeps putting a copy of the template behind the selected one, so as i progress on my track plan i also have to keep deleting the copies.

Also while im here, i cant figure out how to make a Y point

help on either of these would be grateful

Regards, sam.

Hi Sam,

Don't press M and INSERT -- one or the other, not both. Pressing M make the control does an INSERT for you, so doing it yourself as well creates two background templates instead of one. All the functions containing the word "make" work the same way.

Here's a bit of video about this: http://85a.co.uk/forum/view_topic.php?id=2534&forum_id=22#p17410

An easy way to make a Y point is to take a standard point and curve it in the opposite direction.

For example take a left hand point and curve to the right.

I am still using Templot 0, which may be different from your version.

To work on a piece of track I left click click on the piece of track which brings up a drop menu on the screen. Select from the menu.

Martin beet me to it and will be an up to date reply.

Hi Sam,

You need to understand the difference between the background templates -- which make up your track plan. They are usually displayed in blue and green.

And the control template -- which is the output from the template generator engine. It is not part of your track plan at that stage. It is usually displayed in brown and black.

To select a background template you click on it. It then shows selected in white, and its menu appears.

To make changes to it you need to delete it off the background and copy it into the control template. You can do that by clicking either

delete to the control (press T),  or

make the control (press M).

If you choose M, any previous existing control template will be copied onto the background track plan first.

If you choose T it won't be, so you need to do that yourself if you want that template as part of your track plan. (press INSERT before T).

After making whatever changes you want to the control template, you must copy it onto the background track plan again. You can do that by clicking either

store and background (press INSERT), or

make the control (press M) on the next background template which you want to modify.

Watch this video again to see this happening: http://screencast.com/t/aY3laFN6IEdP

Don't do both of these, or you will get two background templates on top of one another.

This method of working probably seems unnecessarily complicated to beginners, but comes into its own when you gain more experience and want to start creating complex formations by overlaying partial templates. See for example the single-slip video which you can find by clicking the help > watch a video > menu item.

CTRL-V is a legacy from older versions of Templot -- press INSERT instead in Templot2.

regards,

Martin.

Hi Gordon,

See what you are missing: http://85a.co.uk/forum/view_topic.php?id=1511&forum_id=17&jump_to=9413#p9413

Templot2 is a completely separate program, so you can have both on your computer and use whichever you prefer at any time.

p.s. Gordon, did you know that you were the first ever user of Templot, in August 1999? smile.gif

regards,

Martin.
