David Bigcheeseplant
The Risborough & District MRC acquired Geoff Williams iconic EM model of Aylesbury (High Street) a few years back to save it from going into a skip. for a number of years it has been stored at a members home but in the last year it has been transferred to our club room where it currently being restored to working order. The aim is to conserve rather than change or make additions. It was never designed to be an exhibition layout but will be on show at Risex exhibition in Princes Risborough on the 21st February. The layout is being converted to DCC as the mass of wires and where they went was not an easy task when the layout was sawed to remove it from it's loft home. alant
Hi David, I wondered who had acquired this, hopefully will make Risex to see it. Alan.
David Bigcheeseplant
A photo I took on my phone last might showing the length of the layout. Most of the layout now works on DCC and trains will be running there are quite a few jobs to do including supporting what to support the layout on, tables are not the best option! The gasometer is sitting on a table rather than the gas works board so that's why its on the tilt! The layout will be at Risex in Risborough this Feburary and Railex in 2016, It is not an exhibition layout and other than these two shows is unlikely to be shown again. RMweb Premium Flying Pig Posted January 31, 2015 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 31, 2015 I recall from the MRJ articles that this layout had some very sophisticated forced perspective modelling at the town end. Does that survive?
David Bigcheeseplant
Yes the forced perspective is on most parts of the layout from looking across the level crossing to the town areas behind the station and gas works. I think this was the second Aylesbury built by Geoff Williams in the 1970s and 40 years on still cuts the mustard in regard to finescale modelling. RMweb Premium stivesnick Posted February 22, 2015 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 22, 2015 Saw this layout at the Risex show yesterday. It is well worth seeing. Unlike many layouts, there is a large area of town modelled which gives purpose to the railway. Nick

lmsforever
Yes the level crossing picture is very evocative mate of mine was stopped by the police for riding his bike with no rear light in the sixties when we still had freight a couple of times a week on the crossing he was fined ten shillings!
