MR PJ
I have fitted a Dapol 27 with Loksound V4.0 micro with "Leggoman Biffo" sounds, here is a link to youtube of it running on my small test layout: I have used a sugar cube 12 x15 speaker, which is 8ohm, but I believe the V4.0 micro is 4ohm output. From previous posts I believe that this will not damage the decoder or speaker, but will result in reduced volume - which seems to be the case as the volume is about the same now as the micro 8 x 12 sugar cube, and does not sound as loud as previous conversions with Zimo decoders. What are the solutions? If I increase the volume via changing the CV it would decrease sound quality, I think... Could I use a small conventional speaker (not as good as sugar cubes)? Or even two small sugar cubes in parallel (will reduce impendence to 4 ohms according to Paul Chetter's post about multiple speakers). Any advice gratefully received! Trade Member legomanbiffo Posted January 10, 2015 Trade Member Share Posted January 10, 2015 Two 8 ohm sugar cubes in parallel would be fine. Increasing the volume would also be fine; the chips are rated to run continuously at full volume (into a load of the correct impedance, and 4 or 8 ohms total load would both be acceptable). We do this all the time at shows. Fitting two sugar cubes and running at full volume is also fine and probably better than a conventional speaker in N gauge applications. Volume (CV63) is 0 minimum, 192 maximum. Hope this helps, Bif
MR PJ
Thanks Bif, I will try an increasing the volume a little and see if its a bit louder. I might also change the sugar cube speaker, as I've had to reduce the enclosure by a few mm, but also hack off 1mm from the length of the speaker to get it to fit the loco. I suspect the seal might not be quite perfect as the sound of the horn sounds a little distorted. Will hopefully get this done by next weekend, along with front end details and lights at No.2 end, then post a new video. Cheers, Paul
