RMweb Gold MikeParkin65 Posted January 13, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 13, 2015 I hope the BR versions are maroon like these rather than muddy brown or crimson.
RMweb Premium Hilux5972 Posted January 14, 2015 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 14, 2015 They do look good. I'm tempted to get some BR ones and say they're were from an inter-regional train left at Paddington by mistake lol
RMweb Gold Market65 Posted January 14, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 14, 2015 Hi. The carriages look superb. Easily up to the standards of the LNER Gresley and Thompson non-corridor carriages. Looking forward to seeing them 'in the flesh'. All the best, Market65.
Lochinvar
Hornby had what were presumably pre-production samples of both LMS and BR versions on display on their stand at the AMRSS show this weekend - and jolly attractive they looked, too. It is beginning to look as if we might be seeing a release earlier than the present official date of 1 Sept. Some retailers are now quoting prices (RRP=£40.25). And Model Railways Direct are now saying 21 Jun. The Hornby guys on the stand said that it could even be as early as March. DR
Lochinvar
The Hornby web-site "expected" date for both LMS and BR versions has now been advanced from 1 Sept to 18 June. DR
Fenman
The Hornby web-site "expected" date for both LMS and BR versions has now been advanced from 1 Sept to 18 June. DR Good news! Though, after years of people complaining about slipping dates, will we now see a torrent of complaints about advancing dates? And how will they adapt all those feeble date-related jokes ("When will the 2015 catalogue come out?" - "2016!"). Paul
RMweb Gold Andy W Posted March 26, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 26, 2015 And they have in fact arrived in March, as two Brake Thirds, a Third, and a Composite in unlined BR livery were delivered to me half an hour ago. (Unless they've sold me the models that were intended as review samples) They look superb, especially the underframe and step details. Now to dig out the LMS Coaches book and check for accuracy. Lucky I bought the Comet push-pull driving trailer end etch at the Nottingham show on Sunday, now I have a three coach non-corridor set, and a shortly a push -pull trailer to go with my elderly Ivatt 2-6-2T. coachmann
Going off the images posted above, while the current methods of production look fine on large window corridor coaches, they dont work too well with quaterlight non-corridor stock. I hope they look better in the flesh. This is no criticism of the types Hornby have chosen.....They should sell well.
RMweb Gold Metr0Land Posted March 26, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 26, 2015 So who will be the first magazine to review them?
Jub45565
I didn't think the brake diagram was correct for push pull conversion - though the other two are. I'll double check though. Good news if they are already here!
coachmann
I didn't think the brake diagram was correct for push pull conversion - though the other two are. I'll double check though. Good news if they are already here! Non-corridor brake thirds later went in for two sets of double luggage doors but push-pull versions and conversions always had the single guards door. So Hornby's model would be correct for a push pull end.
Jub45565
Thanks for clarifying that Larry. I had forgotten that the D1907 brakes (as per the Hornby offering) were a continuation of D1735 aside from a different style of roof vent. The D2122 DVT, while retaining 1 single door, did apparently have the double doors moved closer to the passenger compartments - but the D1856/D1735 P111 coaches are suitable candidates - and are easier if ones retaining the duckets are chosen! Lochinvar
The arrival of these entirely-new coaches so soon after they were first revealed last November is an astonishing departure from what we have come to expect in recent years. Really looking forward to receiving those that I had ordered in the belief that we wouldn't be seeing them until Sept. They should "look the part" behind a Fairburn or Standard 2-6-4T (or a whole number of other locos, for that matter). DR

RMweb Premium Colin Posted March 27, 2015 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 27, 2015 Picked 2 of my pre-orders up today, the BR third and compo. I'm no LMS coach expert but have to say that they really look the part; the S&D incarnation of my exhibition layout will have a complete new stopping service set once the brakes arrive.
