PGC
I have two Mk 1 suburban coaches. As the original glazing on them is pretty atrocious, I bought some Laserglaze replacement windows and tried to fit them, only to discover that there are two different Mk 1 suburban coaches in existence. I have now bought the correct glazing for one and fitted it - what a difference! I believe the coaches I have are Mainline coaches while Bachmann do some that are different, but I'm confused about this, so could someone please tell me who are the two manufacturers of Mk 1 suburban coaches. Thanks in advance for your help. Phil
RMweb Gold Metr0Land Posted January 14, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 14, 2015 I thought the other manufacturer was Replica? Easy way to check, the Bachmann ones are 57' and the Replica ones 64' and yes the window apertures are slightly different.
60526
I've not used Lazerglaze so I'll be interested to see how you get on. It should however be better than my effort with flushglazing, close-ups can be a bit cruel
drgj
On the replica site they say that their flush glazing sets (to fit their own Mk1 suburbans) can be adapted to fit the Bachmann ones.

They can, but don't forget a 57' suburban has 54 windows to file to shape!

It should however be better than my effort with flushglazing, close-ups can be a bit cruel I wondered if this was the SE Finecast flush glazing, and would suggest it probably looks fine from a normal viewing distance trundling round your layout! My other question concerned the moulded cross ribs on the roof - have you actually sanded these a bit, or is the apparent reduction simply the effect of the weathering? Many thanks, John. Not sanded, I just use the back of a sharp curved modelling knife to scrape the ribs off, I also replaced the vents with MJT whitemetal ones, slightly retracted the buffers and have fitted Keen close coupling units to some, the intention being that a 5 coach set will be treated the same.
