ianp
I have started to ballast my N scale layout using material from Woodland Scenics. I am using the medium, brown, ballast, and their scenic cement applied by a syringe. Any obvious advice?
AngryMeerkat
My advice would be to use the search function on this site - ballasting has been covered probably more than any other subject on here. Mark
Montague
I have started to ballast my N scale layout using material from Woodland Scenics. I am using the medium, brown, ballast, and their scenic cement applied by a syringe. Any obvious advice? Don't you think the Medium ballast is a bit coarse for N scale? I use Fine for 00. I would recommend that you start with putting cement on the shoulders of the track bed and apply ballast there, letting it dry completely. Then add ballast between the ties. When neat, apply wet water (water with detergent or alcohol) and then diluted glue. If the scenic cement is supposed to be 'wet, I guess you do not have to do this in two steps. Vonzack
Hi Ianp, I'd agree with Montague, if you're ballasting for N, then you might want to look at the Fine ballast from Woodland Scenics. Here's a link to a blog I'm doing, about half way down the post there's a section about ballasting which you might find useful - http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/blog/979/entry-13794-heworth-sidings-update-21042014/ There's a method, some pics at various stages and also a time lapse video showing what's being done. Hope that helps, Mark.
ianp
Thank you. The Woodland Scenics cement is all-purpose: a diluted glue as well as a wetting agent.
