Hi all

I have just received one of Hornbys R2986 Royal Duchy Train Packs and want to extend the train. Is anyone able to provide details of the other coach numbers and types in the train? Hornby says it is 1957 based. Any help would be great. The current formation i have is

Taunton Castle No.7036

BR BSK Mk1 No.34149

BR CK Mk1 No.15059

BR CK Mk1 No.15060

As it happens, I have a note of the formations [there were two sets] circa December 1956..

Set 1: BSK 34885, SKs 24334 and 24330, RU 1904, FK 13069, BSK 34890, CK 15869, SK 24540, BSK 34291

Set 2: BSK 34901, SKs 24543 and 24362, RU 1912, FK 13070, BSK 34892, CK 15870, SK 24361, BSK 34904

  • 3 years later...

To revive this old thread Chris are the two sets for the up/down formation and if so which is the down.

They alternated, since a train leaving Paddington at 1.30 pm as the Duchy did when first named could hardly be expected to return to Paddington the same day!

Looks like Hornby should have asked you the question before launching this - only one CK.

Perhaps they should, Joseph.

Something which has only just occurred to me is that the formations were different in the summer and winter - those I quoted above were winter sets.  The summer formations in 1961 were BSK, 2 SK, SO, RU, 2 CK, BSK for Penzance and BCK, CK, SK, BSK for Kingswear.  Sadly I have no vehicle numbers.  What must you think of me?
