ThePurplePrimer
I decided to have a go at building some copperclad track to represent 15" gauge track in 7mm scale - ie a gauge of 9mm I want to use Peco code 80 , IL-4 This scales out about right for what I want and means I can use standard Peco N gauge or 009 track in my fiddle yards I assumed it might be easy to find some roller gauges to build N gauge track in code 80 but I am struggling Yesterday I ordered a DCC Concepts one ( hoping it would be what I need ) from a UK shop and today I got an email from them saying they were sending the rest of my order but the roller gauges were not in stock and would be to follow. I called the importer ( Gaugemaster ) who told me they didn't know when they would get them in as they were in back order and had never actually had these in stock. The shop told me they used Gaugemaster to get them so they obviously had them either - ho hum. This means I now have no roller gauges and don't know where to get any Does anyone know where I can get some roller gauges for 9mm gauge N gauge trackwork - it must be for Peco FB Code 80 rail
MikeTrice
Do they have to be roller gauges? I have bought a number (cannot remember who from) and they have all been lacking. My preference is to use Micro Engineering 3 point track gauges which I order from Canada via Fast Tracks. These are used in conjunction with metric feeler gauges to set the various checkrail and flangeway gaps giving me complete control over the standards I use. The standard N Gauge settings are quite tolerant and you can tighten things up considerably while sticking with commercial wheelsets. ThePurplePrimer
Hi Mike Thanks for the reply and thanks for the links - the second one will come in very handy I am sure I took a look at the Fast Tracks stuff and it looks very nice - I am really quite tempted as they do a gauge for N gauge to take the ME code 70 rail and thats a great match for what I need Then of course I would have the option of one of the point blade forming tools even if this is outside of the budget I imagined for the idea I have never built trackwork before and I think with that tool I would have a pretty decent chance of doing an ok job - especially if I bit the bullet and bought the tool for filing the stock rail too Anyway using your idea of 3 point gauges I had a bash at making one to fit the Peco rail ... http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/95175-home-made-track-building-gauge/
MikeTrice
Try this. Much cheaper: http://www.rmweb.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=46997 It also describes my latest method of dealing with tiebars so there is minimum stress together with hinged switches.
