Nelson Jackson
Hello everyone, Pardon my ignorance but I have 3 of these Triang/Hornby short clerestory carriages and don't know what to do with them, so I was thinking of painting/detailing them and giving them to dad for him to use on his LNER railway. So what I want to know is do these coaches look anything like what the LNER or NER had? If so what colour would they have been, did they have lining and where could I get transfers for them? Any info is much appreciated so fire away. Thanks in advance Nelson
34theletterbetweenB&D
The short clerestory bogie coaches? They have some resemblance to GER vehicles. The real things would have been finished in varnished teak. What the LNER did with older coaches once the varnished teak could not be maintained was paint them teak brown, a red brown tone. I don't believe that these vehicles which would already be secondary stock at grouping would be lined in LNER ownership, but Stratford did have its own way of doing things. Try HMRS for LNER coach transfers.
RMweb Premium 31A Posted January 27, 2015 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 27, 2015 Also quite similar to some Great Central types - I seem to recall Peter Denny did an article about 'upgrading' some for Buckingham. Livery comments above apply equally!
Robin Brasher
If your coaches are already in LNER teak livery I would leave them as they are as they are reasonable representations of the prototype.
BernardTPM
They're also not unlike NER coaches as shown here: http://www.stainmore150.co.uk/2011_events/clerestory.html These were the ubiquitous fodder for all manner of pre-group coach models in the '60s & '70s. RMweb Premium kevinlms Posted January 27, 2015 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 27, 2015 These models have been around for decades and sold in many different liveries. Conversions have been mentioned here previously. Do a search in RMweb for Tri-ang Clerestory & you''ll get many references.
Robin Brasher
A couple of pictures of Tri-ang Maroon clerestory coaches hauled by a Somerset and Dorset Railway 4-4-0 on a Purbeck Model Railway Group layout. As the coaches were not marked LMS they can be used to represent any maroon pre grouping coaches.
