RMweb Premium uax6 Posted January 28, 2015 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 28, 2015 I remember the first searchlight signal that I ever saw was at Leeds station in the early '80's. That was mounted (along with a couple more) on a steel gantry across the middle of the station. Now I presume that there was also locations where they were fitted on brackets on retaining walls. Has anyone got any photos of Searchlights fitted on these (or any other) brackets please? Thanks Andy G
RMweb Gold TheSignalEngineer Posted January 28, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 28, 2015 Nottingham had some on a gantry Nottingham by DarloRich2009, on Flickr
RMweb Premium uax6 Posted January 28, 2015 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted January 28, 2015 Interesting that they don't have a back board to them. I suppose thats due to that theatre indicator next to it.... Nice Andy G
RMweb Gold Oldddudders Posted January 28, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 28, 2015 No pics, but the LT&S had a lot of searchlights prior to resignalling in the '90s.

RMweb Premium corneliuslundie Posted January 28, 2015 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 28, 2015 There was an article in the HMRS Journal last year on the signalling on the GE section which was also searchlight, with lots of photos.

Nice Andy G The backboard is on the cage rather than the signal head. This was not an unusual arrangement particularly on the LMR (albeit generally with muti-lens signals and not searchlights). Many of the gantried signals installed as part of the LMR WCML resignalling schemes of the 1960s and 1970s were like this. For example the 2nd picture down here: http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/72757-class-37-photos/page-23&do=findComment&comment=1510546 shows the up starters at Carlisle
Suzie
A rather cluttered picture of some of the searchlights mounted on a bracket at Clacton.

DavidBird
There was one (sorry, no photo) on the up goods at Radcliffe Jn, where the line to Radcliffe CEGB diverge from the main. This was a searchlight ie single lens, on a bracket, presumably so all 3 aspects would be visible from within Redhill Tunnel. Edit: Bracket just visible on this photo, Ratcliffe-on-Soar power station off to the right, HST on the down main. http://www.theaylesburynews.com/images/approaching_Redhills_Tunnel_24-9-03.jpg
SM42
Another view of Clacton. Also find a picture of New St after rebuillding of the 60s and before 1998 and there is a good chance there'll be a searchlight on some sort of bracket in there somewhere Andy

Meanwhile, and somewhat earlier, there were loads of searchlight on bracket structures in the vicinity of Paddington - and they also had finials of course. SM42
Yes, New St's were a bit different. Shame I didn't pay more attention to them before they were replaced. Andy
