w124bob
First and second picture show an old bogie adapted to act as bridge and the loading dock it's used at. Afraid I have no idea of location as there from my files. Interesting how the boxcars have to be spaced to match the loading doors. The picture below show a couple of ex front end loaders adapted to freight car movers, both different. the larger of the 2 has vertical movement of the front coupler plate and fixed rear. The smaller seems to have a fixed plate at both ends but the rear coupler can slide horizonatlly. Actually looking at the loading dock photo, picture 2 is not the same place, serves me right for not captioning saved pictures.
Adrian Wintle
The boxcars have to be spaced because the loading doors were probably built to match 40' or 36' boxcars, and those are 50'+ cars. Β Adrian
Andy Reichert
If you took both pictures on the same outing, I think picture 1 may belong to the immediately right next warehouse in picture 2.
Andy Reichert
Wasn't "Borax" Smith the founder of the Oakland area "Key System"
Adrian Wintle
Borax Wilmington puts it in the Port of Los Angeles area (between San Pedro and Long Beach). Β Adrian
SXHALL
There's a couple of pictures of the loading bridge on Flickr but no details as to where it is.
steve1
That 'bridge' would be a simple scratchbuild and an interestingly different display item. It could left at the end of a spur of even moved up and down. Β steve
GWR88
I really like the bogie being turned into a bridge. It would look excellent as a cameo next to an industry! All the best, Lloyd
w124bob
All the pictures where saved from sites sometime ago, I did search Borax Wilimington but couldn't find anymore photos of this equipment, plenty of the huge plant and various rail related activities. Andy Reichert
My reference to Borax Smith wasn't related to the location, but to note that he use the success of his Borax company to also become a railroad builder.
