Coombe Barton
I'm in an area where I can't find any clear photos, so any help anyone can give me would be welcome. I'm building the Modelex/Churchward 45xx in 4mm I'm now on the back of the cab and seeing if anyone can help with these: I'm modelling the bunker doors open. Did they fold right back or only part way? (so that you could brain yourself on the corner when they were open) The coal bars protecting the glass in the cab rear - what diameter were they? The cab sides - the sliding shutters - were these a wartime fitment? I have all the MRJs and GWRJ that are relevant to refer to, and other dedicated books, but not the RCTS volumes, so any information would be appreciated. buffalo
1. Yes, they will fold back but remember the shelf and toolboxes would help prevent braining yourself on them. 2. Not sure, one inch, seven-eigths? 0.2-0.3mm wire should do in 4mm scale. 3. Sliding shutters were fitted from 1931 onwards, all appear to have been done by the start of the war. Note also that the fender around the upper lamp iron on the bunker also started in the early thirties, but a few still did not have them by the late forties. Coombe Barton
Thanks, Nick I have the GA drawing from the GWRJ articles and can scale from that, but although there's pix available of the front of the footplate there's nothing I can find of the rear. buffalo
Yes, it seems to be a place that photographers ignore. The best I've seen are well exposed side views that show the toolboxes but not the bunker doors. Nick

Coombe Barton
Which is the thickness of 5 amp fuse wire, which I bought very expensively from Maplins.
Killybegs
Which is the thickness of 5 amp fuse wire, which I bought very expensively from Maplins. I think you may find fuse wire too soft. You would be better off with brass or n/s. It's certainly available in 0.25mm, not sure about 0.2mm.
Coombe Barton
0.2mm brass wire says it's available from ebay - known as tiara wire. Eileen's minimum size is 0.33mm

Coombe Barton
Thanks, John - in process of ordering.
Coombe Barton
So duly ordered. But I bu99ered up the expiry date of my debit card on the order and so they emailed me - and then I had to phone back as I saw the email after office hours. And so, by mine own hand, delayed the delivery.
Coombe Barton
Well, this is fun. Trying to mark out the positions of the rear (bunker) cab windows protection bars and find from photos that there's an extra horizontal bar on the variant that I'm modelling. Drawing board beckons. None of this is mentioned in the kit. I wouldn't bother, but it is very noticeable. Especially when you've seen it on photos!
