Chris Gilbert
Well I finally got to start Florida Springs last Tuesday As usual it started with a trip to B&Q but this time for some bendy MFD I sprayed it with a primer then sky blue Then after five days I ended up with this Almost ready for Glasgow next week
Alcanman
Florida Springs looks great. I particularly like the trees and foliage disguising the entrance to staging. Is this a new version of the Florida Springs layout you built and sold last year? Mal
Chris Gilbert
Hi Mal Yes this is the new improved version I pinched the track plan from Fort Smith Railroad
devious diesel
Hi I really like the new layout. The bendy MDF back scene looks good, what brand is the sky blue paint?. More photos and videos please. David

shortliner
I shall be one of the "Hinderers Helpers" on Friday and Saturday - - I'll be wearing a "Darkside" Tee-shirt in either Red or Black (depends which comes out of the drawer first!) so please say hello - I don't bite (often!) The new camera seems to work well - so more photos will follow

Mike Kieran
Awesome work Chris. I just have one query. What is the steel beam above the track at the concrete plant (next to the red light) for?
Chris Gilbert
Thanks everyone Mike I just wanted to make it look a little busier in that area I'm thinking it could be a support for a pully system that dragged the cars over the unloading point after the loco had disappeared. Save having a tractor or trackmobile to move them. (Non working of course)

long island jack
Called in at Glasgow exhibition today, to do a bit of shopping and a look at Chris new layout, as usual Chris was at the front doing his PR stuff and leaving all the operating to his trusty younger staff ,in there latest up to date fashion items!!!! it's nice to see the youngsters quickly getting the hang of these DCC systems!!!! it was nice to see them concentrating no matter who was standing behind them, "now which bl**dy button was it to straighten the palm tree" it can be confusing for some of us season DCC campaigners, never mind novices, well done Jack, you did a good job keeping the public (puzzled!) entertained (only me there at the time!!) and enjoyed the crack. By the way Chris, think the girder looked better next to the building, where it was used for a over head pulley!!!!!!!!! Yours the Red dot police!!! P.s see your beloved managed a win(5-0), drinks all round I expect!!,you should stay away more often!!!!!!!!!!

shortliner
As promised - some uploads of much more photogenic models from my 1½ days at Glasgow - I suppose I should have gone a few doors up the corridor, and photo'd the even more photogenic Glaswegian models lassies coming out of the brides show - regrettably I had a train to catch, so (in the immortal words of the News of the Screws World) " I made my excuses and left!" Prof Klyzlr
Dear Chris, Jack, Some questions if I may? - What are the base fascia, viewing apeture, and roof fascia heights?(presumably sum together to get the total overall module height) - What is the scene depth front-edge<>backdrop? - What was the design and actual display track height? - Was the enclosed roof for this show temporary or permanent? - I see LED strip lighting, but any idea what the errant red/black stray wires in the 6th of Jack's shots are? - Any pics of the staging yard area? I'm pondering some design issues regarding proscenium-type modules at the moment, and F-S appears to be a good exemplar for analysis... Many Thanks and Happy Modelling,Aiming to Improve,Prof Klyzlr
Chris Gilbert
Prof Klyzlr I will try and answer as best I can What are the base fascia, viewing apeture, and roof fascia heights?(presumably sum together to get the total overall module height) - What is the scene depth front-edge<>backdrop? 12 inches - What was the design and actual display track height? 54 inches - Was the enclosed roof for this show temporary or permanent? It was an attempt to keep the track clean, which seems to work so it will be permanent, It also directors the sounds out to the front on the layout and being clear plastic it still lets ambient light in - I see LED strip lighting, but any idea what the errant red/black stray wires in the 6th of Jack's shots are? its the connecting wires on the LED strip I cut it into three lengths - Any pics of the staging yard area? I dont have any but it wasn't finished I will look some thing like this once completed Hope that helps Chris

DavidB-AU
Very nice! I'd be interested to see some pics of the substructure (legs, etc) and fiddle yard. How stable was a narrow layout at that height? Cheers David
shortliner
I can answer that one - it sat atop a set of adjustable height, metal, trestles which are around 21" wide, so it was actually quite stable, and it was operated from the front - the trestles were similar to these in the main picture http://www.screwfix.com/p/telescopic-trestle/30312
