45669
Morning All, Back in 1999 in the early years of privatisation, I had a day trip from Milton Keynes to Plymouth via Birmingham New Street and took the odd picture on the journey and whilst there. I have now scanned these and put them on Flickr; here is the link if anyone would like to see them : https://www.flickr.com/photos/train-pix/sets/72157650461906968/ Hope they're of interest. JeffP
Some nice, if sad, pictures. The remains of such important railway places as Taunton, Newton Abbott and even Bristol, never fails to fill me with grief for what we've lost, and anger at what we've replaced it with. The derelict centre platform has been refurbished and brought back into use.
RMweb Gold The Stationmaster Posted February 27, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 27, 2015 The whole series of pics is a fascinating historical record - just as important in its own way as, say, a similar set of photos from the 1960s would be. Pugsley
The whole series of pics is a fascinating historical record - just as important in its own way as, say, a similar set of photos from the 1960s would be.Indeed - I've just noticed something in this one that is now different as well: https://www.flickr.com/photos/train-pix/15949409853/in/set-72157650461906968 Very rarely do you get a yellow and feather on the left hand signal in this picture, since Silk Mills Level Crossing was replaced by the bridge in 2005, it's normally green these days. It's nice to see the Merlin liveries HSTs - that really suited them.
45669
It was a transitional period, with the new privatized liveries mixed with the old BR Sector liveries. You won't see a 47 on a Mail Train anymore, either! Also, Virgin Trains don't run to Plymouth anymore as this is now a Cross Country route, so the trip I did would no longer be possible on a one company ticket even if the newspapers were offering vouchers. I did several trips during that period as they really were good value, especially if one went to the furthest extremity possible.
