Flood
Looking through the 3D printing thread of the Austin Maestro I came across this post by Merfyn Jones : http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/46411-austin-maestro-cad-3d-printing-project/?p=845959.He says the van in question is not ex-BR as it is registered in Reading. Basically I am just about to create two fake registration plates for the vans on Aberdeen Kirkhill (a Maestro and a Sherpa). Would they have had Aberdeen registered plates or somewhere else (Edinburgh, Glasgow, Perth, Dundee, Inverness)? Thanks in advance.
Flood
Well if one looks hard enough you can find out the answer for yourself. https://www.flickr.com/photos/calderdepot/8652946967/sizes/k/ Clayhills depot in 1989. The registration plate on the Sherpa van is F reg so too late for our layout but it shows it had an area code of GA so it was registered in Glasgow. mjkerr
The majority of BR Scotland (ScotRail) owned road vehicles were registered in Glasgow The last two letters would therefore be in the G-series Some specialist vehicles were registered in England and used in Scotland There was at least one InterCity East Coast vehicle that visited Aberdeen and Inverness We had an InterCity East Coast CATS van based at Edinburgh, from memory this had a Swindon registration
RMweb Gold russ p Posted March 7, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 7, 2015 Vans were normally bought in batches and could be registered almost anywhere. In the north east we has a lot registered in west Yorkshire but I'm not sure whether these would also have been supplied to Scotland. Merf is the man for all things BR road vehicles

Merf is the man for all things BR road vehicles In the 1980's BR had a fleet of vans purchased from Cox of Keighley, so I assume the registrations were the ones allocated to the dealer!
