Autocoach - Who has the Single Line Token?

Playing Operating my new Bachmann 64xx Pannier and a couple of autocoaches today I had a sudden thought. When the loco was propelling the train i.e. the driver was in the Autocoach where would the token be carried on a single line?

With the driver or with the fireman on the loco?

Thanks in advance,

Dave

Quote from the BR 1960 Western Regional Appendix:

Fireman to deal with Train Staff, etc. on single lines.

On single lines, the Driver must see the Electric token or staff in all cases before proceeding into the onwards section, but the fireman will be held responsible for picking up and setting down the electric token, staff or ticket, as the case may be, and in those instances where the driver is travelling alone in the leading compartment the Fireman, each time he takes or gives up the electric token, staff or ticket must sound the engine whistle so as to make the Driver aware he has done so.

If the Driver does not hear the whistle sounded he must himself sound four short whistles and immediately stop the car to ascertain what is wrong.

Of course, what happened before in GWR days may have been different, but I do not have the relevant instruction.

Thanks for that info Paul; answers my question as 1960 is directly in the middle of the period being modelled.

Regards,

Dave
