Albert Bridge
Hello All, I am backdating a Bachmann 45xx, I have removed the cab shutters and now I need to replace the rivets which I presume continue along the tank top edge to the door. These were under the shutter slide. Apologise for quality Thanks for any help.

Looks like a nice project on the 45xx, what period are you backdating it to? Thanks, I'm going back to the '20's, I'm also removing the outside steam pipes. This is an ongoing project that got a bit of a kick when I noticed someone taking the shutters off a 42/52/xx.
buffalo
...I need to replace the rivets which I presume continue along the tank top edge to the door... Yes, they do, and the horizontal handrail was above the line of rivets. For other details, you'll need photos, for example, Russell vol 2 figs 379-81 which show 4549 in 1930 condition. Beware of preserved examples such as 4566 which has run without shutters but with later handrail position and some other rivets are probably from restoring the upper parts of the cab. Darwinian
Thanks, I'm going back to the '20's, I'm also removing the outside steam pipes. This is an ongoing project that got a bit of a kick when I noticed someone taking the shutters off a 42/52/xx. I suspect that might have been me. I am planning to use the Archer rivet transfers on my 5205 backdate. I purchased mine online direct from Archers web-site. I got the introductory pack, which gives a nice selection of different spacings and one of the others that gave wider spaced straight rows for the footplate rivets on my 57xx pannier rebuild. At the time it worked out cheaper than going to an importer. They arrived quite quickly. I haven't made much progress on my loco recently as I've been to busy. Will watch this progress with interest. I'll have to do my 56xx too at some point.

Keith Not really, that looks like the condition of the first few around 1906-9. They'd changed a great deal by the 1920s. Nick
