PGC
I have just been going through my box of old bits and pieces, and I've found two Fruit D vans, one a Hornby Dublo one and the other a Wrenn. Neither are complete, wheels and the small metal/plastic bits that fit in the axle guards for pinpont axles are missing. I like the models, the moulding seems to be reasonably good, but as I model in EM, I need to find a way of getting wheels in to the chassis mouldings. I am aware of MJT inside bearings, and if necessary, that is the way I will go, but does anyone else have any other suggestions on what I can do to get the wagons running. If there's a chassis kit, for example, please tell me! I'm happy to undertake fairly major surgery, if necessary. Thanks in advance for any suggestion, and if you have any comments about the wagons, please feel free to pass them. Phil
BG John
Have they got plastic inserts at the back of the W irons? I've got some Wrenn vans I put EM wheels in so long ago I've no idea how I did it, and they seem to have their pinpoint bearings running in plastic. I've also got an ancient Hornby Dublo Toad somewhere, that I think has a metal clip type thing that the axles run in. They all have outside bearings anyway. Yes, they have plastic inserts behind the W irons. I've only got the insert for one side at the one end of one vehicle, so I have one out of eight! If anyone can suggest replacement axlebox castings, W irons etc. to the standard one, it would be of great help. Thanks Phil
RMweb Gold Enterprisingwestern Posted March 25, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 25, 2015 In the dim and distant past, (late 70's?), there was a rather good article in MRC on upgrading these. Mike.

Phil Just a thought; how about contacting Parkside about supplying some underframe mouldings? I've done this for all sorts of underframes to suit models from other manufacturers. They're very reasonably priced; something like £1 per sprue. As an aside; is this underframe correct, or close to, that used for the 'Whiting', the low-sided open used by the S&T Department of the (G)WR? Phil Phil, you can get replacements for the missing parts from Coopertrains. http://www.coopertrains.com/index.html Geoff
BG John
£175 for a Refrigerator Van!!!!! Shame mine is EM, I started backdating it by removing bits, and fitted 3-link couplings at one end!
Sandhole
Thanks to Geoff for the Coopertrains address. I have both an EMU and an E3002 which will benefit from this. Chris.

I rescued a Wrenn Fruit D with a Comet u/frame. 2 weeks later the Parkside one came out! They look OK in the same train but The Parkside one is a superior model and less work.
