DCC fitting to a early Bachmann/Mainline Class 03

Hi is anyone able to send me instructions for fitting a dcc chip into one of Bachmanns early class 03 or point me to a thread on here.

Any help greatly appreciated.

If you are referring to the split chassis model I would strongly suggest that fitting DCC to it will be throwing good money after bad.

The motor won't survive more than modest use and the risk of ruining decoders is very high. The wheels on this model frequently become detached from the nylon axles and then start limping round the layout.

If you must fit a  decoder then it is an imperative to isolate and insulate the two motor terminals that are designed to touch the two half chassis and must not do so after fitting a decoder. The slightest stray wire will kill the decoder immediately.

The latest Bachamnn 03 is a jewel and is fitted with a six pin decoder socket and mine runs happily with an ESU Loksound with speaker. Terrific investment and well worth the effort to fit sound.

Where did you fit the decoder and speaker? Did you hardwire it?

No I bought a Loksound 3.5 Micro with six pin connector. The decoder has a space under the cab floor but I used the main body. The sugar cube speaker fits in the top half of the cab and I lost the cab light and the driver model in the process. The most joyous bit was recording the sounds on the Somerset Railway example. Things have moved on a bit since I did all this and there was an intention to fit working shunter lamps but I didn't in the end.
