Thank you but "All three liveries" gave it away April Fool, lol  :sungum:

really? Intercity 'Mainline', Intercity Swallow, GNER... that makes three... or are you implying that a one-off wouldn't be produced in all its liveries in one go?

I must admit the thread title had me fooled... :-p

A more subtle (possibly too subtle?) April Fool would be to say that Bachmann are modeling 89401 (see what I did there.... April-01)

I believe preserved diesel locos are class as 89, so a model of 89401 would actually be 47401!

Hi,

Did anyone see the new VTEC 'announcement' for today ?

Here is a linky...

http://railwayherald.com/uknews/virgin_to_provide_innovative_new_onboard_experience

Yes, yes......it made me spit out my medicine until I thought about it a little.....

Kindest Regards,

Shed.

It may be an April Fool, but I have had a similar idea trundling round my head for some weeks now, prompted by many sedentary minutes each day sitting in an HST and frustrated by dark evenings prohibiting a good cycle when I arrive home.

Given there is no longer a prohibition on passengers in the front vehicle of a 125mph train, why can't the luggage area of a Class 43 or DVT not be fitted out with a small Gym. I'd happy 'cycle' for an hour, or do some weights, and probably pay a small fee for the privilege. A great way to wake up and a productive alternative to doing work.

DVTs are seldom full of luggage, and HSTs have alternative stowage space in the TGS and coach vestibules.

And a TV with a head/tail camera view would do just fine, although an absence of the urgent tones of a Valenta may necessitate a bit of background music!

Maybe a letter to my TOC is in order?

It's not really that silly an idea. Part of a April Fools' prank is that on some level it is plausible (spaghetti farming aside). It reminds me of the 1920s cinema car on the Flying Scotsman - in the manner that workout equipment and fitness is in vogue as a recreation today in much the same way the cinema was back then.

Interesting, I thought the cinema cars were converted Full Brakes. That picture suggests it started life as something else...

This Pathe car is certainly a BG.

Is that Sir Nigel Gresley in the front row of the speeches?

I hope it isn't an April fool and that 89001 is produced rtr and with the specs I mentioned yesterday.

Well with a bit of look Bachamnn or Heljan or Hattons are reading this thread and thinking maybe we could sell a few of these.

I certainly hope so

... unless Rapido, or someone else, were to get there first.

I'm certainly not holding my breath - but sounds very much like the sort of niche idea that might appeal to a small number of model railway enthusiasts.

Whether it would appeal to enough people - with enough money - to make it viable is a completely different matter.

Personally, I haven't got a clue.

89001 is bound to get made at some point ... if anyone asked 10 years ago whether we'd see RTR models of Lion, DP2, Kestrel and Falcon what would the chances have been? 89001 would have to fall into the same category and even as a one off it could be really popular. I for one would have 2, one in IC Executive and IC Swallow liveries!!

I agree because if companies can produce those locos then why not the 89, after all like Deltic, DP2, Kestrel, Falcon and Lion the 89 was a 1 off but so what, my point is that as I said earlier in this thread the 89 would in my opinion be a very popular loco with modellers.

Come on Bachmann rise to the task and lets see a long awaited loco in rtr form.

Why Bachmann? The 89 is much more Heljan territory so you might be better off lobbying them.

You can say it as often as you want, doesn't make it true! I'd say that's about as niche gets! It's been out of service more than in, an incredibly restricted geography and not anything like as iconic as many other 'one offs'.

Lima did a RTR one years ago, a limited edition in conjunction with Model Rail IIRC. I'd love to see one, but I really can't see it happening, definitely not from Bachmann anyway.

Whether its judged as being iconic possibly depends on your age. Perhaps the earlier prototypes stood out more being surrounded by steam, but I couldn't really give a monkeys about Lion or Falcon. Some people may think they were iconic.

Lima did an RTR Class 89? I think you're mistaken or you've perhaps seen a DC Kits or Silver Fox resin kit on a Lima chassis
