The chimney is the same height, but it is slimmer. Without having good dimensioned drawings to compare, I can't be sure, but it seems from photos that there were several variations on the one basic design out there. Hi Martin I hadn’t though of getting my 19 class ones out to check I think I have two types thank for the reminder. you are right as well like the 30 class the 19 seem to have a few variations in the Chimneys
hartleymartin
I'd like to get my hands on the drawings and go over them with callipers to figure out what is going on. Most of these locos were products of Beyer-Peacock, but I'd like to know what the deal was with the chimneys and domes since they seem to all be fairly similar, but looking at prototype photos, there were clearly different ones for different classes of locos. hartleymartin
I can't make it out too clearly. It looks like it says "C30" this is interesting since these locos were built 20 years before that classification system, which implies new chimneys or the label was added some time after 1924. Just as a side note, No. 18 (formerly E17 class) whilst working for Corrimal Coal and Coke, ran with what appears to be a 50 class chimney. SMR CHRIS
Yes Martin re 3085 it dose appear to have C30 cast in on the front of the Chimney The photo with No18 E17 dose shows a very nice smooth cast chimney that may be very similar to a 50 class also recall seeing a photo of a 18 class tank with a very 50 class looking chimney on it as well
hartleymartin
That was probably 1803. When it was stored out in "Rotten Row" around the back of Thirlmere it was wearing a 50 class chimney. Seeing the proportions of this chimney makes me doubt that old no. 18 wore a 50 class chimney, but it could just be a matter of perspective. http://australiansteam.com/1803.htm Edited April 10, 2019 by hartleymartin
SMR CHRIS
Not much going on with my own modelling however plenty going on for others with models repairs and sound installs mostly HO & OO models however 2 O scale 48’s passed over the bench for sound and some reworks to get the most out of the models Video of the 2 48’s with ESU Sound twin speakers circuit boards reworked and the models height raised as they sit too low and the bogies catch on the chassis frame. SMR CHRIS
Getting Dirty weathering With Moonan Flat due at an exhibition for set up this Friday I thought I would take along some of the latest loco additions so be the time the weekend is over they will be run in ready to have a big weekend at the Rosehill show that’s also coming up. So the newer locos chosen for this weekend are 5917, 4821, and CPH 28 all being X works they were spotless, and looked way too clean so out with the pan pastels and within minutes 3 dirty locos. layout is now packed up ready for loading and a trip up to Richmond Vale Railway Museum’s Steam and Model Trains weekend. https://www.richmondvalerailwaymuseum.org/ 5917 lightly used not long out of the workshop condition 4821 with the classic Alco oily top casing and light road grime CPH No28 as it still has crown lights in a period that most were under rebuild, it’s a rather grubby example waiting/ getting close to it’s trip to the works for rebuilding with Masonite siding and crown lights deleted. still need to paint the shiny wheels though. https://www.richmondvalerailwaymuseum.org/ I also thought the CPH has better earn its keep and before it got dirty the passengers boarded courtesy of EBay $4:50 got a pack of Chinese people good enough to fit the roll filling the void that was a empty interior, the Chinese are slightly under scale but I have found scale people don’t fit in the seats as plastic and metal figures don’t have squishy parts and soft garments. The driver of this CPH is a popular boy with two young lady’s riding up front. Edited May 16, 2019 by SMR CHRIS Add photos 2

Was there much in the way of other layouts? cheers Bob Had a good weekend at RVR With BBQ dinner sat night at the meadows residence for the exhibitors that wanted to. We took the Camper Up and camped sat night at RVR. There were quite a few layouts at the show mostly train set style or small basic setups typical rectangular board etc Peter samson has a nice Sn3.5 Scale Shunting Layout with various Australian prototype models running on it all of his own build. Saturday was a little quiet with the election being on and a competing exhibition in Sydney by the Hills club this year, but Sunday was very busy at one stage had 15/20 people constantly in front of the layout for 1/2 an hour and got lots of very nice comments from the visitors over the weekend. Moonan Flats operated faultlessly all weekend As far as trains. I took a CPH RM No28, 4821 ran passenger service with 2 end veranda cars 5917 on one Goods train with 3039 for the other goods train and 1903 as a spare loco. 16 Goods wagons and 2 Guards vans The two goods trains worth of wagons with the remaining wagons in the goods siding that you could alternate between each time you cycled the train Goods trains into the.station from the fiddle yard/ sector plate. The 30 tank could have 6 wagons and a Guards Van when on the sector plate the 59 5 wagons and van. Plenty to keep things interesting esp with the combination of hook and knuckle couplers I have several wagons and vans set up with transition couplers fitted to cater for the Hook draw gear only locos like the 30tank. The 48 also has transition couplers for coupling to the HFO-BI set that has hook draw gear only. A great weekend in all RVRM had the little Clyde built 0-4-0 Marjorie in steam on a pair of Bob cars running down to the main road due to the main track still having to have sleepers replaced and bridges replaced after the bush fire damage.
robertc
Sounds like an enjoyable weekend Chris. Interesting that Peter Sansom is now exhibiting S scale, look forward to seeing that sometime. Peter had gone to large scale modelling the last time I saw him. I don't get the Australian Sn Modeller magazine these days so am not up to speed on what is happening now. cheers Bob

robertc
Apart from the occasional live steam stuff, there are items from GME for G1 Martin. https://www.gregsmodelemporium.com.au/zencart/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=13 For outdoor use I used wheels from the G scale offerings when I was building a ground level layout in the 90's. I have come across small shunting NSWGR layouts in G1 at Kurri and Springwood exhibitions some years ago. Battery /radio powered. cheers Bob
