RMweb Gold The Stationmaster Posted April 5, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 5, 2015 Clearly neither Mr Snook nor the reporter have been on RMweb Or have ever visited a model railway exhibition!
RMweb Gold tarifa Posted April 5, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 5, 2015 Meanwhile, at Miniatur Wunderland in Hamburg.... I bet you can't wait to put your 34ft x 14 ft layout up for display. Mike
bike2steam
It's just a pity those 'toy train' curves spoil the illusion. NEC lowering the standard eh ??
RMweb Gold big jim Posted April 5, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 5, 2015 A few uncalled for comments in this thread so far, ok its not to everyone's taste but it has been built in a very short time by a band of 7 volenteers for charity in a village hall they share with various other orginaisations , armittedly not sure about the claims about it being one of the biggest roundy round layouts though! And yes, mr snook (and mr snook senior) have been on rmweb and are members on here
Suzie
It is sad to say that the claim of being one of the biggest is probably true for exhibition layouts. Outside of the very big shows you are unlikely to see a comparable sized layout nowadays.

jonny777
Slightly O/T, but this reminded me of a very large layout that I was taken to see at Lord Montague's car museum at Beaulieu way back about 50 years ago. I have only vague recollections of this visit, but was told it was then the largest model railway in the world. Does anyone have any info on it, and/or what happened to it? bike2steam
Yep I also saw it about 45 years ago, then saw an identical one at Colchester Zoo about ten years later - or was it the same layout ?? But again that was a layout with tight curves, and not much thought in the placement of buildings.
RMweb Gold Colin_McLeod Posted April 7, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 7, 2015 It will be interesting to see what attention the layout gets from the attendees at Warley. So far as I can see from the photographs nearly every square inch of baseboard is covered in track and the only scenery consists of a few buildings. If the layout is kept active it may well draw a crowd.
RMweb Gold big jim Posted April 7, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 7, 2015 The chances are by the time warley comes around there will be more scenery added The groups other layout is a wall mounted hinged set up that lowers down from the back wall on pulleys in wrenbury village hall quite a clever bit of kit really which saves them having to set up a portable layout everytime they meet Although not my scene as im not into joining model railway groups i am quite impressed by what the group have achived in a very short time, all the members are very enthusiastic about what they are doing too, also impressed by the fact they got the layout on the BBC news website! I think you're referring to the Bernard Otto railway http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/32285-bernard-otto/
