RBAGE
Hello all, or as many take the time to have a read. I have just bought quite an old Bachmann class 44 from that famous internet auction site and the running is not what I had hoped. The movement is perfectly OK but at medium speed setting it makes a bit of a racket. At slow and high speeds the running sound is fine. This is a DCC ready loco so it's not one that came out of the Ark but the lack of Bachmann's over enthusiastic panel line on the bonnet front confirms its quite old. I've lubricated wheels and gears to no avail. Has anyone had any experience or have any ideas so that I can avoid going through the wringer to find out what it is. I know I should probably send it back but I've been waiting for ages to get a chassis to go with a class 45 body I have so I'd rather keep it and try to fix the problem. I'll be fitting DCC sound so quite running is quite important. Bob
tamperman36
Try lubricating the bearings of the motor itself which will be hidden inside the chassis, you may need a small sringe or a pin to do this, also be gentle with the circuit board and wiring which is above the motor. Thanks tampermann36, I'll give it a go.
RBAGE
Job done and screeching is dramatically improved. Still a bit of a noise but I expect this will go when the lubricant has done a complete job. Thanks very much. Bob
