Where has "Classic" Google maps gone?

I suppose it was bound to happen eventually but the "Classic" Google Maps seems to have been removed completely

I preferred some features of the old one and found the Street View "chappy" easier to place on the map than the new version so I always returned to the old version each time Google changed me over (without my choosing).

Now when you try to change back you get the little query box as before but when you click to return to Classic it just goes to a "Lite" version of the new one.

Anybody else found this?

Nothing to do with model ling, but I hate the new Google Maps

Same here.

It is less easy to use than previously and calling "New Google Maps Lite" Classic is totally ridiculous.

I hate Google Maps, period. I tend to use Bing.

Bing is probably an inferior product, but I like the way I can switch to an OS Map as I zoom in.

So far I'm still getting the old maps. Is there a working measurement tool for the new version? That's the main thing which has kept me from accepting the change.

Dave

Hi Dave,

Yes - yoou can measure....

At the start point - Right click and you should get a pinpoint marker with options.

Choose the Measure Distance option and then move to the point you want the measurement to end.

When you next right click it should show the distance between the 2 points.

Thanks

I've been jumping back to the old one every time because I can't stand the new. Now they seem to have forced the new regardless I've found that the aerial views don't zoom in as far, but they do on the "lite" (learn to spell, there's no such word!) version. More pointless change for the sake of change, so no doubt it'll get lapped up by everyone who thinks new == automatically good.

Yes and now incompatible with IE browsers version 9 or older - which I'm sure will disadvantage many big businesses still running older versions of Windows/IE as their standard installation.

My work computer with IE8 still opens the old Classic Google Maps. I find it much easier to use and a lot less annoying.

Yet another case of "if it ain't broke keep fixing it until it is" ...

That made me smile, but only partly because it's funny. Sadly, it's just so damn true.

Not keen on the new maps but they do seem to have improved a little since they first tried forcing it upon us. There was originally a very annoying "smooth" scroll / zoom that seems to have gone.

I wish they'd put the road colours back to what they used to be, give me my blue motorways and green primary routes please!

The AA Route Planner still uses the old version, with full functionality, but the image isnt full-screen.

I have used it a lot in preference to Google Mops

Cheers, Dave.

A lot of commercial sites have "locate us" links which use the classic version and none of the ones I use have been updated yet.

The changes are dreadfull

saddr link method broken, loses any sites over 10, in Google Chrome does not display all the drops.

Sort of OK in IE and FF.

I need to investigate other map sites now
