I still need the real thing too!! Only picture I can find showing the "ETH" box is this: https://www.flickr.com/photos/steverailways/6115292195/sizes/o/ Doesn't appear on any other pictures I've looked at. Does this mean they might be doing an ETH 31 next year? This would be in the right place for some of them (I think it's only in that location on one end for some): 31401_5.7.87 by runtheredline, on Flickr 31405 TI (1) 27-1-91 by vincentminto, on Flickr I see they also released 31233 as ETH fitted at one end, which it wasn't. Only one so fitted seems to be 31602.

I still need the real thing too!! Hornby c*cked up the original release of the yellow 31233 by using an ETH fitted moulding. I think the Hornby yellow 31233 had ETH connectors at both ends, but one had a cable and one was painted yellow to disguise it being there......... Cheers, Mick
47423
I never took any notice of 31233 to be honest, only noticed the mistakes on 285 while debating with myself on 56094. A bangor blue 31/4 would be very welcome though.

Hornby used the ETH cab tooling to add the camera etc. fittings when producing 31233 and used the same when producing 31285. Otherwise a whole new cab tooling on a non-ETH version would have been needed, which Hornby probably couldn't justify on cost grounds.
WILLIAM
Wonder why Hornby didn't just model NR's 31465 which has ETH but doesnt have the additional cameras & lights?
DavidM
31465 needs arguably as many tooling mods as 31233/285, with the removal of the two central front steps (above the hi-intensity headlight) and fitment of LED taillights.
