ronnie thommo
Hi guys, First of all, apologies if this subject has been covered previously Can anyone tell me, or even better, has anyone else experienced their Bachmann Class 66's wobbling on one chassis ? This is an incredible ongoing issue for me with these loco's as per the below : I have purchased in the past :- 66 152............Wobbled on one chassis 66 152 replacement..........That wobbled as well, on one bogie 66 701............Wobbled 66 701 replacement.............Also wobbled 66 846 at a cost of £230 with the inclusion of sound,.....................WOBBLING. Purchased this very day Am i the unluckiest Class 66 buyer of all time, or have Bachmann got a real problem here ? Modelling modern image, i have no choice but to incorporate the Class 66, but i am getting to the stage where i dread buying one ! If i seem angry, its because i am I have paid £230 for 66 846 and had sound fitted into it, and it wobbles down the track like a jelly ! Can anybody assist / advise on this very annoying ongoing issue ? Thanks Ron
sawyermodels
Hi Ron, I have owned the DB Schenker 66 which i fitted with sound before selling the loco and it didn't wobble. I currently own the Colas 66 and it is awaiting sound and it does not wobble. Do you still have your purchase receipt? If so you have 12 months warranty on the loco so send it off to Bachmann for them to have a look at it. hope this helps andy
The Black Hat
I have had models of 66701 in the past, and they have all been fine. Could be interesting to see footage of the issues if you could get it, or precise details of how they wobble.
ronnie thommo
Thanks Andy I hear what you are saying however I haven't paid £230 for a brand new unused loco to send it to Bachmann to be looked at It is currently wrapped back up to be sent to the shop I got it from If they cannot find the issue, then it's money back time I hasten to add that I have two other EWS 66s ( 055 and 062 ) which run beautifully, but I was nervous as I ran them for the first time I must admit. I have never seen this issue with any other Bachmann loco type but the 66 Cheers John
ronnie thommo
Hi Dave Precise as I can get it as follows The loco rocks from side to side, but only on one bogie It's as if there is a bent wheel shaft on one of the bogie sets. This cannot be the issue though surely, as I can understand a rogue wheel set on one loco, but as per the thread, I have had 5 loco,s with such issues As the power is cranked up,the issue gets worse, and the loco looks daft wobbling from side to side There is a coincidence here though The loco,s mentioned above, are early ( ish ) 66 examples with an 8 pin socket. The latter 66s are all 21 pin, newer examples My 055 which is a Ltd edition, and 062 which is the French example runs great Perhaps Bachmann know or knew of this issue and upgraded the newer examples . Just a thought Cheers John
sawyermodels
We test all locos in the shop on the demo lyout before the customer takes it away and they can see how it runs and if not happy we get another one from the stock room and then send the other loco back to the manufacturer for repair or replacement or credit note. I hope that the shop you purchased the item from can fix the problem for you. cheers andy
ronnie thommo
Hi again Andy, Yes, i do usually have the shop test any loco i buy, but i live in Derby and the shop i purchased from is in the North East. The loco wasn't sound fitted, but i had them put sound into it before it was sent As a punter, we rely on loco's being run and tested for smooth running, lights working ok etc from the shops before despatch, but this is proof that it doesn't happen in some cases We now live in a society i'm afraid, where you can never get anything right first time. If i can see this issue, why didn't the shop see it ? I have no doubt that the issue will be rectified, either by repair or refund, but i really like the loco and it sounds great and i am hoping they can fix it, but it's all inconvenience, plus at least a tenner to send it back. As a matter of interest, i am surprised no one else has come forward with this issue, Bachmann haven't saved all their wobbly 66's for me i'm sure ! Their loco's are superb and i have no issue with Bachmann products I have plenty of their loco's, but this 66 issue haunts me Cheers Ron
Alcanman
Problems with Bachmann Class 66 bogies have been discussed here on RMWeb. http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/19487-possible-bogie-design-fault-on-the-class-66/page-2 A lot of people just seem to attempt to fix the problem themselves, however, a new model should be returned to the retailer, if possible. I bought a new (21 pin) DBS 66101 last year which was very noisy and wobbled, the replacement was fine. Other 66s I have bought and fitted with ESU sound decoders are very smooth runners indeed.
