caenmatt
Hi all Your feedback welcome good or bad. I have managed to clear a space in my shed so I can embark on my new venture. My intention is to create a Blue diesel depot and rolling stock depot. Not stuck to this era so I may run what I like. The layout will be DCC and controlled by Railroad and co software. I have the stock and software ready to go. I got to the point with a previous layout where I had trains running via PC control but I lost the space to my children. So to explain the layout, it will be 17ft long by 2½ft deep with a lower level fiddle yard at the front. The fiddle yard will be 4 inches lower than the layout with a lid on top making it the same level as the layout base. The idea is you can lift the lid on the fiddle yard to get access to the stock. I also have young children and it will keep tiny hands away. The white area left and right is the inclines to the fiddle yard. The orange around the yellow is scenic breaks with the yellow being the viewing area. The two lines at the top are the up and down lines with the depot below. Before I proceed onto RR&co I would like some feedback on the layout, especially the fiddle yard. I am not 100% convinced but I cannot see any other option. Cheers Matt
JeffP
As I always do, when I see a query about a depot, I would refer you to Landore depot in diesel days. If you go onto Google earth and search "Landore", you will be able to zoom in on the depot. It's interesting, prototypical and has more operational scope than your plan, which is a bit like a pair of long sidings. HTH
woodenhead
Or swap the wagon shed for the engine shed so the engine shed is double ended, the swap your fuel roads for the two sidings in front of your platform. Then you get a nice wagon works with a stabling point near the station.
DCB
There is something very wrong with the fiddle yard, there is a big triangle of wasted space, surely the points ladders should be parallel not toe to toe...
caenmatt
thank you for your comments. I agree with you all, it is just complicated and does not flow. I have a revised plan for your comments.
