phoenixchris
Folks I know the subject has been talked about before but has anyone come up with a decent way to fit Kadees to ViTrains 37/47's ? I've tried the method where a Kadee is filed down to fit into the original ViTrains mount but I've found that the original mount has so much flex in it that the Kadees uncouple on their own! Any ideas anyone? Cheers
Suzie
I have found the only easy way is to cut off the tension lock and glue a kadee on to the stub of the shaft. It would be handy if Kadee could produce a version for that type of standard pocket or better still if Vitrains could produce a mount that you can buy couplings for. Adrian Wintle
or better still if Vitrains could produce a mount that you can buy couplings for. I thought that the Vitrains locos had NEM 363 mounts (rather than the more common NEM 362 ones), in which case you can get Roco or Fleischman couplers that will fit. frobisher
Not tried this myself, but might grabbing something like "36-030 Long Straight NEM Coupling with Pocket (x10)" as shown at http://www.Bachmann.co.uk/prod1.php?prod_selected=branchline&prod=8do the job if you discard the tensionlock to give you a somewhat sticky out NEM 362 pocket on the 363 mount? steven156
Agree with OP from experience the ViTrains coupling mount is too loose for Kadees to work properly. Theres far too much play that allows the Kadees to seperate even on level track! The best thing to do is to unscrew the entire coupling arm mechanism out from behind the buffers and bin it. Replacing it with a standard NEM pocket glued onto the bogie, there is a handy notch in the bogie frame that allows the NEM pocket to be glued into it. Simple and easy! The fishtail that Bachmann (and Hornby) use for their mounts is not NEM 363. Adrian
naugytrax
Unfortunately the Vitrains coupler mounts are not strictly NEM363 because they're too far inboard of the buffers. I tried attaching the Fleischmann Profi-couplers but they were only usable if I left the buffers off the loco. The Kadee NEM 362 - to - 363 bodge is workable, but only for light trains which don't require much drawbar pull and hence don't bend the coupler arm up or down too far. Hi Steven, I have several ViTrains Class 47's I want to convert to NEM 362 to fit Kadee couplings thus just wanted to find out if there is a specific NEM Pocket to purchase to do this that fits nicely into bogie notch? Also what size Kadee coupling do you need to use? Very much appreciate your assistance. Cheers Steve

Cheers Steve I just unscrewed the vitrains coupling mechanism and binned it and then built up with plasticard under the cab and used kadee boxes and used kadee whisker couplings. Used my kadee height gauge got it spot on works a treat. Express models sell the whisker couplings
