Horsetan
Just stumbled across this informative page. Makes wheel turning that bit more understandable.
Horsetan
I contest that. Several modellers use P87 for their own layout and thus use it (almost?) daily. Case in point: Brain Harrap .... Yes I know, but I flagged up the page as useful since the general principles for turning down flanges remain much the same, whether we go P87 (as I would like) or RP25-88, etc. Â The only other thing that I might differ on is the assertion that it is inadvisable to do it with plastic-centred wheels. Sometimes there is no other option but to work with plastic if raw wheel castings are not available. It has been successfully done in fiNe-160, and my feeling is that it should work (with sufficient bracing) in 1:87. Case in point are the 7'7" dia. drivers of the one-off 18.201, or the 6'1.5" of the ex-Bavarian S3/6 - there are no Teichmann or Weinert castings for these.
