ZBV Grampus mods

TRAILRAGE

Recommended Posts

Came across a photo of this Grampus mod I've not seen before on Brian Daniels excellent Flickr site.

The nearest end of the wagon has been converted to planked  of varying depth with two vertical supports (T section?)  but only one end is shown so cannot say whether the other end is the same. It is also fitted with RCH long spindle buffers (at least on the visible) and plain roller bearings on a 8 shoe clasp fitted underframe.

Side are in Dutch yellow and grey with the ends just plain grey. The solebars and headstocks are black.

Reckon this is a nice and unusual variation and would make a nice model and having some Dapol unpainted bodies  I wouldn't mind having a go.

Problem is need more photos to work from but haven't been able to find any.

So if anyone out there has any would you mind posting them up?

Cheers Trailrage

Grampus wagons were a numerous and versatile part of the civil engineers wagon fleet, and I can see why quite a few have found new homes on heritage railways.

I have not got any close up photos of grampus wagons, but here is a crop of a view of Kingswear station  with a couple of them in shot.

This pair I think were probably a BR conversion and have become a winch wagon and a roller wagon,

I think they are used along with ganes or salmon wagons to load 60' lengths of rail.

cheers
