peak experience
I've a hazy memory but think platforms 1 and 2 were no longer there in that time frame.Where they once were became a car park next to the Bury line platforms.
jolt5
Thanks for quick reply I've used an undated map and pictures of Flickr to put together the majority of the station, this would make sense. There are still parts I'm unsure of though.
black and decker boy
Most of the through platforms were bleak in typical manc weather but the ride home to Rochdale in a 110 or 101, hot wet and steamy, was always a thrill, especially if you got the front seats and had a friendly driver that left the blinds open. RMweb Gold tractionman Posted May 17, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 17, 2015 this book has got a fair few pics of Man Vic in it - a bit earlier than the 80s but still worth a look? http://www.thehistorypress.co.uk/index.php/transport-industry/trains-and-railways-books/british-rail-northern-scene.html it's a lovely nostalgic book. I see it's listed as preorder on the History Press web-site but there are copies of the book on Amazon second hand, presumably from an earlier print run. cheers, Keith

Mythocentric
Have you tried the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway Society, www.lyrs.ork.uk ? They ought to have all the details. Brgds Peter Always worth investigating! They have also recently published a book about Manchester Victoria which can be ordered from the link in Peter's post. Also dropping an email to the appropriate area stewards should give you an indication of the photo's and drawings available! Regards Bill

jolt5
Is the second till bottom photo of platform 17. I have also been working with a scale map I believe to model Salford central to victoria it will take 70ft in n gauge. I already have a track plan I will share it later but don't know exact distances between platforms and the location of differnt items. I will upload a picture later. Working timetables come up every now and then on Ebay or can often be found in second-hand bookstores particularly at preserved railways near the area. If you're looking for Manchester Victoria timetables then the shops for preservation groups at the East Lancs Railway may be worth a look

RRU
Nice photos BigJim, I must have been standing next to you for some of them. Happy days. Thank you Colin. You may well have been there, I was never alone. I have spent many cold, dark evenings at Victoria waiting for the hourly Trans Pennine train after visiting the autumn/winter model railway shows. muddys-blues
Hello, I used to live in Bury, and would catch the 504's many times when visiting Manchester, from what I recollect, the Bury trains left from platform 4 only, 1 & 2 had been removed for car parking, and platform 3 I think was derelict, I think it may have been left in situ so it could support the roof posts, and what used to be platforms 1 & 2 where out in the open as a car park, I think that is right, but someone may correct me !!!! nothing new there as I am Married with Kids, and I am always wrong in our house I found this pic below on Wikipedia, sorry it's a small pic, but hopefully you get the idea. Hope this helps Craig.
