Stumbled across this today.

http://www.legendarydartmoor.co.uk/mmor_training.htm

Ingra Tor Halt boasted a rather unique sign, a photo of which I remember appearing in Backtrack a few years back.

As  I remember, an enamelled British Railways style sign imploring the following - DOG WALKERS BEWARE OF SNAKES.

As it's Dartmoor, presumably adders.

The update states the four runners did win the race.

As an aside, I've used Dartmoor per se for some excellent mountain biking and my first end of a long days fun was along this route.

Ironically, my first, yes first, main puncture over many years of dodgy rides was around Ingra Tor Halt! Whilst my cycling buddy and I fixed the puncture a lairy group of "cyclists" passed us and gave some sort of sarcastic comment. So, tyre fixed we carried on and took a short cut just before Kings Tor and waited for them to round the corner. Their faces were a picture when they saw us in front of them not realising where we'd come from ! Finished our ride at the Plume of Feathers in Princetown and as we downed our beer they walked in with a slightly sheepish look. All good fun :)

In some old pictures of the Princetown branch, there is a siding of the curving shed lead and crosses the T/T line.  On some its gone so how far did it go and why?  Probably to some quarry or something but it didn't last very long.

I was amused to see a "beware of snakes" on a halt on the York Moors railway!

There was a picture, a while back, either in Rail or Steam Railway, can't remember which, of a NYMR volunteer using a small branch to extract an adder from one of the inspection pits at Grosmont shed, very much alive and seemingly none the worse for wear (the snake that is).
