dude2112
Hi to all, I am currently hardwiring decoders into the titled DMU. I have already done the drive unit but am not sure how to go about wiring the directional lighting in the separate end units...... Am I correct in thinking that the front uses the red and black pick up wires for power supply to the decoders then the yellow and grey in one end and the white and grey in the other end ? Any help would be great. Cheers.....
Tony Walker
Can I suggest that the best option is to buy the Express Models 170 replacement lighting unit for this. It's a simple modification and installation to do and gives you the full lighting options of day lights, night lights and tail lights. You will also need two function only decoders with four outputs to operate the light units. I would suggest TCS FL4's to do this. Regards Tony. RAF96
Grey would logically be blue as this is the common positive with the yellow and white being the front and back lights switched leads. The motor is orange and grey with the track pickups being red and black. Hence the memory rhyme red and black to the track orange and grey the other way (motor terminals). I suppose another line or two is needed as an aid memoire for the lighting connections. Any budding poets that can paraphrase F0 - white is forwards and yellow is back, but you need blue to complete the circuit, whilst green is F1 and purple is F2. I doubt I shall be selected as the next poet-laureate. I've used Express Models lighting kits and they are OK, but in my opinion a tad expensive for what you get - a few leds wired to a small pcb and a sheet of instructions. I have also found that installed per the instructions they sometimes worked in reverse logic requiring some fiddling with CVs to restore correct direction. Adrian Wintle
If you get really ambitious, the door lights (which already have separate, clear lennses) could be added too. Adrian
