Jintyman
Hello all, I've recently moved to 7mm from 4mm, and I'm going to be making trackwork to O-MF standards using wooden sleepering, C&L chairs and rail. I've been able, in the past, and currently, to design pointwork in its basic form with Templot. I am having difficulties in designing the double junction with a single slip within the crossover. I just can't get my head around the slips, no matter how long and how many times I watch the tutorials!!! Here is the overall plan of the station area, as can be seen, there is a single slip within the double junction. Is there anyone out there that could put the design together for me (just of the double junction with slip)? I can provide either dimensions, or a single track design of what I want with the curves and turnout length in a Templot file. You are welcome to either PM me, or answer on here. Thanks in advance Jinty Edited to add that the bottom point in the plan is nearly a three way point to the siding.
Michael Woolford
David, the basic design you say you have drawn up in templot. Can you post it here? If you just need the slip road drawing in I can have a look for you. I'm sure Martin will be along shortly to offer his advice, but in the meantime I would suggest having a look on the templot forum as there is plenty of information on there within the various topics. You can always post your own queries on there too if you have any problems in the future. Michael

Hi Jinty, It would be worth also posting your request on the Templot Club forum at http://85a.co.uk/forum/ . Have you watched the latest Templot single-slip video? It includes interactive stop-start so that you can read the detailed notes. I would be very interested to know where you are finding a stumbling block, so that I can improve it. The video is available in 3 places: 1. directly in Templot (recommended) -- click the help > watch a video > single slip menu item. This is in FBR video format with a JumpTo list for easy navigation and repeat viewing. 2. in streamed MP4 format for mobile devices (or if you can't play FBR videos on your Mac computer). Click here: https://flashbackconnect.com/Default.aspx?id=RxdwQczwCvgPpdDu1OJJhA2 (If it doesn't automatically stop and start as it plays, you need to watch one of the other formats. If it doesn't restart when you click it, click the > play button bottom left.) 3. in Flash format on the Templot web site at: http://templot.com/companion/index.html?add_slip_roads.htm (FBR and Flash provide the best video quality.) regards, Martin. Jinty Edited to say, I've created a PDF of my drawing, but the file is too big to be put on here.

Hi Jinty, You can post your Templot .box file on here, so Templot users can load it and see your trackplan. There are several ways to post a picture, but the quickest is to click the output > make a trackpad screenshot... menu item. The PNG image file for uploading will be wherever you choose to save it, or in your C:\TEMPLOT_DEV\IMAGE-FILES\ folder. regards, Martin.
Jintyman
Thank you Martin, God knows you are a patient man!!! Here you go, it just shows the radii of the curves, and the bottom siding isn't shown either Here is a rough sketch of the area and the size it's got to fit in Thanks to all Jinty
Jintyman
Sorry, I left the plan over to the right, instead of centralising it. Jinty
RMweb Premium martin_wynne Posted May 30, 2015 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 30, 2015 Hi Jinty, You didn't post your .box file, but I was able to use your screenshot as a guide. Here is your double-junction, file attached below. jinty_double_junction.box edit: p.s. I haven't done any timber shoving. Over to you to tidy that up. Unfortunately this diamond-crossing is too short to have an inside slip road added. The outer V-crossing is 1:5.25. The shortest sensible size for a running-line slip would be 1:6.5 or 1:7. To do this you would need to ease the lower curve through the diamond. Once through the diamond you could transition back closer to the existing curve. I have left the spacings on 6ft way (78.17mm centres), at these gentle radii there should be no problems with running clearance. Generally for this location it would be much better to change to curviform crossings in the turnouts. I haven't done that because I don't know whether you have already built them. There is a video showing how to create a curviform double-junction -- help > watch a video > Scruff Video curviform double-junction menu item. regards, Martin. Hi Martin, Thank you for the above, I really do appreciate it. Well I've watched the tutorials, and I've tried having the laptop next to the PC and following the tutorials, but it's obviously not sinking in!!! I have also tried easing out the bottom curve but get all messed up when I do. So, and I know it's admitting defeat, but could anyone draw out the plan for me on Templot and send the file on to me. If you could PM me and we can discuss this. I just don't have the time to devote to the drawing out and learning, as I have that much going on both with work, etc. Thanks in advance for any help Jinty
RMweb Premium martin_wynne Posted May 31, 2015 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 31, 2015 Hi Jinty, Please attach your .box file, otherwise we are just guessing what might fit. You are using D-10.25 turnouts. is there a reason for that? It's not exactly a common size. C-10 or D-11 might be more usual. regards, Martin. Jintyman
Hi Martin, I've been working off your box file you kindly sent me. The dimensions are accurate as you'd gone off my screenshot. I will re-attach it here: jinty_double_junction.box As far as the turnout size I just eased it till it looked right to me, I will bow to your superior knowledge on the best size to use, although I'd prefer the shallower angle as it's coming off a platform face so the less overhang the better.
