Private owner wagon - Forder and Co

Recommended Posts

I am researching Forder and Co as they ran the Burghclere Lime Works, Hampshire.

I understand that B. J. Forder & Son Ltd feature on page 61 of "Private owner wagons, a NINTH collection" by Keith Turton.

Cheeky request but I have been unable to get a copy from my library, even via inter library loan. I wonder if anyone who has a copy of that book would be willing to scan that one entry for me and email it? I can't afford £20 for a look at one page of a book.

Personal research only, not for gain.

Any other info on wagon liveries for B.J Forder, particularly related to the Burghclere Lime Works, Hampshire would be gratefully received too.

Thanks in advance

Colin

Alas research is not easy and not cheap, the cost of £20 is nothing compared to the cost of a visit to the "National Archives" at Kew!

Look in the photographs of Charles Roberts wagons available via the HMRS!

Order a copy via your local library but you may have to pay a charge for it coming from out of area!

I haven't, on the basis that they would likely wish to sell me a copy of their book rather than help me avoid doing so. I wouldn't blame them either :) The only idea I have at present is that NRM wil probably have a copy so next time I'm up that way I'll pop in and have a look. Thanks LE

I suspect you touched a raw nerve, judging by Mark's response. The entry in Turton has two pages of history, and two photos of the same wagon (admittedly good pictures) which meet the OP's requirements, although there are more of wagons after Forder merged with the London Brick Company in 1923. I am not near a scanner for a few days, but if no one else has been able to assist you I will PM you when I get the chance.

That's really good of you Nick, thanks!
