w124bob
After a couple of days work VLLX 600 is finished, the only extra details are the spark arrestor and the grabrails on the hood side. Walthers provide guide dimples for drilling the holes for the grabs, exhaust was cut down to about half height and a spark arrestor from my "bits box" added. Add scale KD's and paint . GWR88
That looks really good Bob! The weathering is spot on as well. All the best, Lloyd
w124bob
It's all just enamels and a few brushes! The RI lettering was removed with T Cut,cabside number came off very easily but the Rock Island proved a bit more stubborn but I wasn't bothered as a patched look was what I was going to do. Once all the T Cut residue is cleaned off the bogies/airtank and the visible parts of the underframe and pilots get a coat of Humbrol 33/62 mix. Vary the mix as you paint to get a mixed tint (dark gray works just aswell as black) more brake dust brown around the bogies and dirty black every where else. Then use the same mix of colours thinned down as you go over the whole body, leave to dry. Next day take a cotton bud dampened with a bit of thinners and remove most but not all of the dirt as required. Once really dry patch paint and tone the bright red to a faded red, finish with Dulcote . I now spray a small amount into a old pot and brush the Dulcote on sparingly.
