Hornby vs Bachmann B1 axle diameters

Recommended Posts

I'm looking at buying a B1 to run on the club layout & it will need to be converted to Em.

Having looked on Alan Gibson Workshop website I noticed they do a Bachmann conversion kit & have documentation to go with it.

I was wondering what diameter the Hornby axle diameter is 3mm or 1/8 ?

I do prefer the Hornby B1 to Bachmann & wondered if the Bachmann conversion would suit the Hornby.

Cheers

Simon

Hornby driving axles tend to be 3mm dis. nowadays.

That is true, the Hornby B1 is 3mm diameter axles ,as are most recent Hornby releases, but be careful.....the new J15 is on 2mm diameter!! Alan Gibson have done a conversion for this.

Whether Hornby have moved away from 3mm....only time will tell!

The Gibson  Bachmann EM B1 conversion will not fit the Hornby B1.  The Bachmann B1 conversion uses 2.5mm axles.
