A trip to the Great Central Railway last weekend has spurred progress on my model of 37411.

First up - Lostock and some Smoking Barrels and the GCR itself - what a wonderful railway and a great achievement to have 8 locomotives in steam on the Sunday! From the Jinty through to Oliver Cromwell, my daughter and I were very impressed. My favourite was the BR Std 2 tender engine, Elly's was the LMS red Leander.

Some shots from the weekend - my favourite all weekend is the second one of Oliver Cromwell at Leicester North...

Whilst at Quorn station we spotted a 37 parked up alongside the platform that was perfectly lit with a low sun - so out came the camera and I grabbed some detail shots.

Here is how the Bachmann model is progressing - I'm hoping to write this up for Model Rail so just a teaser for now. It's all scratchbuilt out of plastic off cuts, 0.35 and 0.45mm brass wire plus one or two odd valve things from the Hornby Class 31 detailing kit and some white elbow pipes from the 08 detailing pipework.

and the model...

You've prompted me to use some parts to achieve the same finish which wouldn't of appeared to me without looking at this article.

I have done the wire myself and need to find some chain and white pipe.

It looks really good. Well done. How thick is the white 08 detailing?

Thanks,

I think that a cotton bud with the end chopped off (the cotton) melted with a hairdryer could be moulded into something similar perhaps?

I may give it a go and tell you how I find it.

I think that would be too thick... if you can't get your hands on a Class 08 detailing set from Hornby then I'd probably try stripping down some old USB cables and see if any of the wire in that would be suitable?

Yes I had a look and its somewhere near the 1.5mm mark.

I'm gonna have a look now.

I can't seem to find the wire to the fuel tank on any prototype shots. May I ask what it's purpose is?

Thanks for the info. It seems to be either on the one side or perhaps removed as I couldn't seem to find it anywhere else on photos of 37411.

I'm gonna do 37411 as the 'Scottish Railway Preservation Society'.

Will be nice to have another ews tractor.

I've already ordered one so should be carrying out the same mods.

I used USB cable in the end. No need for repainting or drilling hole just used a screwdriver to make a bit of a hole to hold the superglue then fitted the black USB wire into that. I fettled the socket around a bit aswell. It needed a lick of paint and a bit of excess cut off but as you've already proved it was worth it.

The Green 37411 is looking fantastic.

Really lovely. The detailing is subtlew but noticeable and well worth it. It looks great.
