  1. I can't believe I've only just discovered this thread ... my old depot I was a Driver here from 1976 - 1985 and honestly can't recall the sidings on the Down Side being called '60s' and feel sure I knew them as 'The Park' Thanks for sharing these wonderful memories
  2. Only just found this obituary and would like to pass on the condolences of my wife and I to John's family ... I never knowingly met John but as a young railway modeller his layouts were inspirational and we actually shared a common bond after my marriage as shortly after that my wife transferred on promotion within the Civil Service and John became her Boss Since those days (35 years ago) its been my job to keep my wife updated on news about John's moves and output ... this sad news has now been relayed to her
  3. Twenty odd feet above book stand is yet another friendly purveyor of quality secondhand books .... and the owner just happens to be a retired Driver formerly of OOC
  4. 1:32 on 16.5 = 20.8in gauge - close enough to either 21" or 20" gauge as used by the Hudswell Clarke 'Pretenders' (Scarborough/Blackpool) as well Industrial use.
  5. There was an article on the Bridport Branch in Railways Illustrated February 2010 that should answer this question.
  6. Sorry about that - still very much on a learning curve regarding scanning slides ... any suggestions as to what dpi I should be scanning them at would be appreciated. Regarding the vodka question above - as a footplateman myself I wouldn't have dreamt of offering them drink outside of the local BRSA but anyway at that age if I had a bottle of vodka it would have been empty by that hour of the clock I think the 'thousand' was 'Western Queen' from squinting at the slides ...when I locate my diaries I'll check. Nick
  7. I've just posted the pictures that I took of the 'Last Rites' being performed on the Maiden Newton - Bridport Branch 3rd May 1975 at My fotopic.net Some examples appear below to pique your interest (hopefully). Nick
