damage to cardboard kits

I wondered if I might share an experience; I live outside the UK but in the EU where the temperature is a little warmer and more humid than the UK; I started reinstalling my set making, or unpacking, models from standard UK cardboard - usually Superquick - kits or papers. After short while I found what I thought were white marks on them. In fact I became sure that something was eating the printed surface; at present I think my culprits are silverfish, as I have sprayed the affected with a water based biokill and have quite a few dead silverfish and no further white marks. Has anyone else encountered this?
