A bit more scenery

blog-0831717001429648510.jpgWell, what passes for scenery on my layout so it is some more ruined buildings. I became aware that since I extended the back scene to wrap all the way around the back of the fiddle yard, that it was making the transition to the bare boards rather to stark. Obvious answer was to extend the scenery a bit further onto the fiddle boards. what ti put immediately next to the big house was easy as the in one of the photos I was working from you can see the area to the left.

Then to make things a bit more interesting I fancied this along side it;

Only problem with the garage is that I have a limit of 3 inches height due to the way the boards are stacked on top of each other for transport. No problem though, I will just destroy it a bit more and can still get in most of that lovely writing. Incidentally, yes, that is an original colour photo!

So, having decided on my plan, and finding a suitable horse and cart in my local model shop just by chance, I set about some foam board with a Stanley knife. Only about an hour later I had this;

I really do recommend foam board for buildings and I particularly like this sort of modeling where I can just create something without having to be too accurate and just let my imagination loose. Another big advantage of doing the scenery this way in small chunks is that I can do all the detailing comfortably at my desk and then just plant it all on the layout when finished. And here it is where it is going to go;

Obviously a lot more to do but really looking forward to getting stuck into it as at least this little project doesn't have any couplings or pick ups to drive me mad!
