  1. Received mine from Titfield Thunderbolt this morning along with a personalised postcard from Simon. Thank you. Now if I can only get some time to get my head out of spreadsheets ...
  2. Many years ago I thought about a subscription to MRJ. I couldn't find my chequebook. Repteated hunts in WHS Thought about it a few years later Ditto with the chequebook. And WHS Rinse and repeat. Titfield offers delivery and electronic payment. Saves me a load of fruitless searched in WHS. Still can't find the chequebook
  3. Thanks to not Jeremy and the crew at Titfield Thunderbolt, MRJ and one other item, and a host of postcards and other freebies, arrived in what I now call "Postie No Bendy" packaging. Book, magazine and extras packed with a very stiff board (hardback book cover material, that's the No Bendy bit) in a brown paper bag which was inside a strong taped polythene bag which was then inside a bubble wrap envelope, well worth the p&p so that it didn't get damaged. The p&p is well below the cost of repeated trips to WHS to find damaged copies or not in stock.
  4. Thanks to the guys in Bath for prompt service - mine arrived this morning, and much to the posit'e annoyance it was so well packed and unbendable that he couldn't get it through the letter box so had to knock. And plenty to think about in the new Wild Swan book I also bought - Authentic Model Railway Operation by Martin Nield Quality is being maintained after the transfer of ownership of the brand.
  5. When my copy came it was accompanied by a postcard with a personal message. Thank you.
  6. And having read Dave Rowe's tribute to Shirley, my eyes are quite damp.
  7. Times, they are a changin'... Others may have noticed, but just seen that Cygnet have changed their address and have an email for Small Suppliers.
  8. Confirming what I said previously from close-ups. Limestone, not granite.
  9. From memory it's probably a local Devonian period limestone, not granite. Probably quarried from Hooe or Brixhan areas, or maybe Buckfastleigh.
  10. There is a Facebook group called Friends of Ashburton Station, who (I think) are proposing a return to trains using the existing station site. If you are on FB you can find them by searching for their name. There was a public meeting in September, this is the (just published) report of that meeting. If you can see it, this is a link to the post <iframe src="https://www.facebook.com/plugins/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2FAshburtonStation%2Fposts%2F1768452806639595&width=500" width="500" height="802" style="border:none;overflow:hidden" scrolling="no" frameborder="0" allowTransparency="true" allow="encrypted-media"></iframe>
  11. I have recently received a photograph of The Lady of the Collies in the background of which was the multi-awl-rapid-fire device. Be aware.
  12. Just found myself going outside for a break and up to the back gate and peering through, just like the dogs used to. I did not, however, use the lawn for what the dogs used to.
  13. It's the only thing I go into Smiffs for, but wait until I read that it's reached some of their shops from reading threads such as this, so the Smiffs searchers save me time.

  16. A bit? I see it as a classic non-statement hedging any bets.
  17. Don't know if this has already been posted. https://www.newcivilengineer.com/latest/hs2-staff-on-notice-and-consultant-workloads-slashed-22-01-2020/?fbclid=IwAR2BgmwhaPHAaY7_Mv37OzenwxqwluE4wERew2NvkGgXIEcW3B9jj9S9PhY
  18. Anyone getting the impression that thinking is less than joined up?
  19. HS2 cost cutting: Yorkshire leg of High Speed Rail project could be dropped to reduce costs https://inews.co.uk/news/uk/hs2-cost-cutting-yorkshire-high-speed-rail-project-reduce-costs-boris-johnson-1368974?utm_source=fb&utm_medium=fb&utm_campaign=ijp&fbclid=IwAR2Mz3JGQ5yoM6rnT4QRKpDI8O-gLfEkT17muCW-5m0Ak01g7z176Oushq4
  20. I have never considered the issue with holly on the front to be any different from any other in terms of information and content. They're all damned good.
  21. I was talking about the one at Crabtree adjacent to the Plym
