B954673
Hi all. Just a little introduction to Penmouth, this is my current layout which I am building. it will have an 8 ft x 1ft scenic section and a 4 ft x 1 ft fiddle yard. It is very loosely based on Penzance station, however it needed to fit on a shelf brackets on a wall, so the width needed to be a maximum of 1 ft, to be easily movable, and for it to be stored away. The wall is just over 20 ft long, including doors, and i am hoping to add a depot similar to Longrock at the other end, replacing the fiddle yard once the station is finished. I have finished the baseboard, and laid the track on the scenic section, wired up the simple platform board, and am just starting the more complex station throat board Operation will be DC control, track work is SMP with points handmade with copper-clad sleepers and tortoise point motors. Guest Dave.C
What is the red base stuff please?
B954673
the shunter is meant to represent 08398 left over from a previous layout, looking slightly like http://davidskelton7.../p57661768.html . and the red baseboard is just some free 6mm ply, that was painted red for a Christmas display stand. today, i have been building platforms. the walls where made from 3mm hardboard, and then in-filled with insulation board(the cutout section between platform 3 and 4 is where the point mechanism would have been before the station was rationalized) next up find some thin card, cut to size, and cover platform surfaces... B954673
had some more time to myself so got on with a few bits and bobs. I have mostly finished the platform surface, and ballasted and painted track on board 1, painted the white safety line on all platform edges. painted the point nearest the frount. went with a very dark gray for track colour, i'm not a fan of orange track. next thing will be ballasting the siding at the front, and making some buffer stops. still not got any money for point motors, hopefully will get some soon so i can complete the wiring, on board 2. B954673
small update, i have finnished the electrics, and balasting on the second board. Its all had a coat of paint too. next up is the back scean, station building, and then move on the the next board, (bridge over stream) and fiddle yard. The signal box, is just tempary, until I decide what to do, build one, or get a Hornby GWR one, thats been prommised a release. But couldn't resist a play... B954673
Today, having some spare time, i decided to weather my Hornby 50013 (Agincourt). Having found this picture on the Internet ( http://johnlawonther.../p37000184.html ), of it stabled in Penzance, on what looks like a tipical rainyday. I got out my airbrush and had a go, anyway here is my attempt. i'm quite pleased with it. but can see areas that need improving. I took the picture in the conservatory, as there is more light out there.
B954673
just a quick update, i have painted the back-scene, and added retaining walls on the first board. Also I have made a start on the main station building, this is a low relief version of Penzance station, modified slightly to fit in better with the surroundings, and See pictures, any comments comments or hints, would be greatly appreciated. I have also obtained two more class 47's, one needed a repaint, and the other just needs weathering, pictures to follow
RMweb Gold bcnPete Posted February 22, 2011 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 22, 2011 BR Blue / WR / Some tired looking locos... Just my cup of tea Starting to evoke some nice memories of Penzance already. Any plans to hint at the sea wall along the edge?...
B954673
day off again, so a couple more pictures, first off I have finished off the station building, just needs signs and bits and bobs of clutter, and also a picture of my first attempt at a respray. 47316 (was 47370) seen on the left of the last picture. In the center is 47148, prity much how it came out of the box, apart from the train reporting number has been painted out, and holes drilled for the domino type lights at the front. and in the backgrounds is 47035, which I have had for a while. The retaining wall is now painted and extends to the signal box. Due to width issues I cannot extend to the see wall at the station end, however, along the other end towards the wooden bridge, there will be the footpath, and depending on the size of the yard the beach (it will be heavily compressed). Im off to start the buffer stops next, and the motor rail terminal. will
RMweb Gold mudmagnet Posted March 2, 2011 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 2, 2011 The 'John Menzies' sign dates the layout into the correct era, even without any locos / dmus!

B954673
Today (being Sunday) there was an engineers possession at Penmouth station, i managed to take some pictures of the progress which has been made. The roof will be slightly lower than it is on its temper y supports(next job). I am very pleased with how this has turned out.
RMweb Premium Gwiwer Posted June 6, 2011 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 6, 2011 Interested to see this one develop, not least as a sometime local of Penzance and with a far south-west theme of my own. One question - how do your trains enter platfrom 1? The track plan doesn't show a suitable crossover but perhaps you have one off-scene somewhere? Other than that the weathered 50+BG look convincing and the roof is looking good so far as well.

B954673
how do your trains enter platform 1? The track plan doesn't show a suitable crossover but perhaps you have one off-scene somewhere? ah ha well spotted, the plan from the start of the thread is an old track plan. when I started track laying i realized that the cross over before the platform end was not going to work so I removed it, along with the second siding at the front. the next board along will have the other crossover on. attached is the more recent track plan
