Making haste with Haston Vt.

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I took Haston Vt. over from Chris last year but have been otherwise occupied since so too busy to take it to the shows...

Now that's changed - Haston Vt returns to the exhibition limelight!

The layout will be at the Bonnybridge Exhibition on the last weekend of September.

http://www.bonnybridgemrc.co.uk/

As a result of the invitation I've been tidying things up and making (small) adjustments and changes so I can work it in my own way.

Photos to follow soon!

However - I need another loco to run and can't find one available....

Anyone out there got an RS1 or RS3 that they want to part with?

Funds waiting - If you let me know - I'd be most happy to take it off your hands!

Thanks

Hi all,

Time permitting (and some decent light) I'll take and post a couple of teasers - just to whet the appetities!

Must not forget to say that Jon Gwinett and Simon Barratt will be assisting on the stock side of things - thanks in advance guys!

Jon has some of the ex Haston stock and Simon has one of the ex Haston loco's.

Amazing that by completely sepertate routes etc that so much of Chris's wprk should all end up in Scotland!

Thanks

Hi Simon,

The shunting neck will be a bit tight....

But they will fit!

Must remember not to put long stock into the shunting neck on the same move.

Thanks

ps - More action on the layout - still no photos though.

Now have the Lenz Expressnet panels installed - also have the LS150 installed but can't make it work with my Compact!

Room for SD45s?

- also have the LS150 installed but can't make it work with my Compact!

I used that combination on my old layout, I seem to recall I had problems trying to get the Compact to program the LS150 to send a pulse long enough to get the Tortoise to throw, so I ended up permanently using the emergency control panel.

Hi Andy,

I know the feeling!

Anyway - I hoe that once the pulse length is set with a Lenz 100 set then it will work off the Compact as I will only need to access the turnout number!

Should keep me going until I can manage the funds for a Set 100 of my own!

Thanks

Come on Phil

Where's the photos.....

Hope you have a go show.

Hi chris,

I'm working in a shed...

It's a bit of a pain getting the light right.

However - the layout comes into the house this weekend (now that I've tidied up and cleared enough space to work round it.

Don't panic Chris!

I've not destroyed the look and feel of the layout (I think)

No dooubt you guys will trll me if I am right or wrong.

Anyway - ewaiting for more tree stuff to arrive in the post.

Amazing that even though kept in the dark the colours still faded.

Thanks all for the interest though!

Looking forward to it. Do you need a hand setting up on the Friday? If so, what time we meeting up. #4 or #2 digit addresses for locos, and how much stock (if any) do you want.

Need to get the 2 WSOR locos I have left tweaked and running. WIll bring the CSX 8-40B as that's different to all the EMD stuff, and sounds good too! No ditch ligths yet so an early 90s vibe.

Hi Jon,

I'm setting up on the Saturday as I can't get the Friday off.....

Intend arriving just after 8am.

2 or 4 digit will be fine - Makes no difference at present.

What stock is an issue....

How much stock - Define what is too much or not enough?

A check though my stock shows I dont any any Hi Cube boxes and I did plan to have by now!

CSX/NS/CP or stuff like AOK or CRLE would be suitable.

I have sorted out the Centerbeams though!

I'm bidding at present on eBay for any 'Modern Caboose' but seem to miss out pn the 'right ones'...

So - Bring what you think is suitable and we will happily play trains.....

Thanks

Ok, Dad duties mean I'm unlikely to get away from here before 9 on the Saturday morning, but I'll get there as soon as I can. Not many hi-cubes but I'll bring what I can find.

Edit, thanks to a pass out from my lovely wife, I will be available to help set up on the Saturday morning :-)

Hi Jon,

That's great news!

Breaking News.......

Haston is in the house!

That means I can work on it in comfort, warth and light plus till whatever time in the small hours I can get away with.....

Trees have arrived!

Now I just need to work them into the right shape etc for the layout.

Some vehicles have arrived!

Now I can backdate the layout if I feel like it.

Lighting kits have arrived!

Now I can put lights where they seem to be following real practice.

Still plenty to do!

The clock is ticking......................

Thanks

Hi all,

I've just realised I have a problem...

(I know - loads of you thought that anyway)

Haston has Mini Fluo Tubes...

I wanted to be able to 'Dim the Lights'!

How do you do that with Fluo Tubes?

Is it cost restrictive?

Do I need to replace the Fluo Tubes with some sort of lighting that can be dimmed?

Answers on a postcard please!

Remember - I'm half Scottish and half Yorkshire - so cost is a bi issue.....

Thanks

Not sure that dimming them is possible - possibly a secondary (clip-on bulb) light system with a dimmer - switch off the fluos and dim the secondary system. - Ikea did clip-on lamps but any decent ironmonger should have them - I have a couple but getting them there by weekend may be a problem unless postie hurrys

EDIT

Have 2 x clip on standard bayonet fit beside me = but no dimmer - email your address if wanted

Hello Jack,

Thanks for the offer of lights...

I've been thinking along the same lines - duplicate lighting rig. Fluo and LV Hallogen or other incandescent lights.

A quick trip to Ikea beckons for some Low Voltage Halogens sounds like an idea - especially as it would mean I can get the mains power off the layout and into a box on the floor.

I have some clip on spots for the various roadshows we do but the lighting effect with them is patchy.

I managed to free a dimmer from household slavery! The Mrs said she didn't like the effect with it anyway.

More once I've sorted out the various bits!

Thanks

Hi Nick,

Thanks for the link...

If this was a proffessional, paid for, light show I would have gone for some of the stuff they have.

It's not though!

Certainly not cheap - but looks very good.

Thanks

It's possible to dim flourescents but not easy http://www.apollolighting.co.uk/products/Lighting%20Control/Dimming%20Fluorescent%20Lamps/index.php

In any case you'd be changing the tubes & fittings so incandescent looks like the way.

Nick

Hi all,

I'be been playing with trees....

Whay are good trees so hard to come by?

Then - when you do - the price brings tears to my eyes!

Anyway, Trees arrived from The Model Tree Company

See http://www.themodeltreeshop.co.uk/index.html for more info.

I've been installing them gradually and playing with them to make the shape more suitable for the various positions on the layout.

Hopefully I'll be happier by the weekend and put up some more photos....

Thanks
