Baby Deltic's Baby Deltics

Recommended Posts

Over the last couple of weeks I've been teaching fellow club members how to do weathering with an airbrush. Last Thusday four of my Baby Deltics and a class 45 got a dusting of Humbrol 98 and Humbrol 33. I did have a couple of issues with the airbrush/paint mixture producing 'dots' at low pressure which was a bit of a pain, but generally they turned out ok. The camera doesn't really do them justice, as it tends to pick out all the chocolate paint and make it look far less subtle than it actually is.

Anyway, here's some pics:

Nice work. I'm glad you mentioned about the camera telling porkies! I started taking pictures of my own efforts because as soon as you do, you can see instantly what you've missed, and put it right.

Although we may be viewing our models subjectively, I too have found the camera seems to make some weathering less subtle than it seems to my eyes.

Thanks. I know what you mean about the camera picking out every detail. Before now I have got a cotton bud and meths and cleaned areas I'm not happy with and resprayed them. The camera does make the baby deltics look like I have covered them in paint, but if you look at them with the naked eye, its hard to notice the paint on the bodysides because I sprayed them from a distance to just take the plastic look off of them.

  • 2 weeks later...

I've been doing more weathering classes at the club, with the airbrush, and last week I did a few steam locos. Although I am really a diesel modeller, I actually prefer to weather steamers in some respects because you can get some nice soot effects by combining chocolate paint and matt black. Here's the locos:
